Telephone interview is an important part of HR initial screening, which determines HR's first impression of you and whether HR will give you a one-on-one interview. Especially the "big name" that all students admire, telephone interviews can't escape, and if you are a little careless, you will miss the opportunity and regret it.
First of all, we should have a general understanding of the company interview process.
Generally speaking, the interview process is:
HR search resume and pre-screen;
HR sends resume to department manager;
HR and the applicant finalize the interview time;
HR interview;
Interview with department manager;
HR talks about salary.
Of course, there are also some big internet companies that do business first and then HR.
In this process, HR or department manager can basically take the form of telephone interview. In general, step 1 will add a telephone interview. What I'm talking about today is the telephone interview at this stage.
From the company's point of view, why interview by telephone?
Mainly to save time and labor costs. An HR receives 10 resumes, and it is not bad to see 5 resumes, but only about 3 candidates may come to the company for on-site interview.
So what information does HR mainly want to know about us in this telephone interview stage led by HR?
Simply confirm work intention, work experience and education.
Make a preliminary investigation on the professional skills (abilities) involved in the resume.
Check whether the candidate adapts to the corporate culture (values) of the company.
Check whether the candidate has a strong willingness to work.
And our interviewer can break them one by one according to these four points.
1. Simply confirm work intention, work experience and education.
This link is basically no problem for candidates. However, it should be noted that this is the "ice-breaking link" for HR to chat with you. Please smile politely at this stage to leave a good impression on HR.
HR usually introduces his company and position first when calling. What you need to do at this time is to quickly recall the company and position you passed on in your mind.
If you don't remember it, don't hesitate to make an appointment with the human resources department for another convenient time: "I'm sorry, I'm not answering my phone right now." Can I contact you again in 10 minutes? " Hang up the phone and immediately find the job description and requirements of your delivery post. In order to avoid such embarrassment, please be sure to prepare a tracking list of your delivery posts, record the company, posts and post contents, print them out and carry them with you.
The main principle of this stage is to let the other person feel your "attitude", and don't let people feel that you are just throwing yourself into the sea and are not really prepared for this position.
2. Make a preliminary investigation on the professional skills (abilities) involved in the resume.
This stage is to examine whether you are suitable for this job, and whether your skills and previous work experience match the position.
There are two kinds of ability examination: professional ability and general ability.
Under normal circumstances, HR in the first round of interview will not be too entangled in your professional ability, because the investigation of professional ability will be left to the department manager behind or your immediate leader, and if your major is more professional, HR may not know much about it. So at this stage, you need to send more information to HR: my previous work experience is highly coincident with the position I applied for.
If you are a fresh graduate, what you should prepare is to "highlight" the part of your major, school club practice experience or internship experience that matches the position you are applying for.
If you are a social person with work experience, what you need to prepare is: make clear your past work experience, what experience you need for this job, what achievements you have made in this field, and what achievements show the ability you need for this job. ...
Here, I would also like to mention the classic star rule, which is used to sort out the cases in previous work (non-fresh graduates) or life (fresh graduates) (under what circumstances we worked, how we achieved it, and what kind of results we finally got), and show our abilities through cases.
Prepare 2-3 successful cases and at least 1 failure cases.
In the process of scene description, HR can understand your work style, behavior logic, problem-solving ability and teamwork ability, so as to judge whether your overall ability is qualified.
3. Investigate whether the candidate adapts to the corporate culture (values) of the company.
This stage is a deep excavation of yourself, examining your values, self-orientation, driving force and personality traits.
Some questions that the human resources department may ask at this time are:
Why did you choose this position? (motivation)
Please describe yourself in three words. (personality)
What do you like to do after work or on Saturday and Sunday? (growth direction)
What you need to do at this stage is: you must make a good career plan, rely on your own personality characteristics, hobbies and self-motivation, and try to be "logical".
For example, if you apply for an internet company, but you are not a person who likes to change, then HR will judge that you are not suitable.
If you are applying for a beauty company, but in fact you don't care so much about appearance, then this company may not meet your values.
Find your real interests, your personality characteristics and what you are good at from your past experience, and find a career that suits you from the intersection of the three. State these reasons in the interview process and convince HR.
4. Check whether the candidate's willingness to work is strong (willingness)
Generally speaking, if you show a stronger willingness to work than other applicants, you will get more attention than others and find a job more easily.
Moreover, at this stage, if you prepare a job for this job, you are more likely to get an interview.
For example, if you are applying for operation, you can make an operation plan or make a summary and analysis report on the existing content of the community.
Actions speak louder than words. No matter how much you say you want this job, it is better to devote one day to this job immediately and make a visual result.
Finally, give you some places to pay attention to:
Psychological preparation: Don't think that the telephone interview is just a "casual chat", prepare it for a formal and serious interview.
Environmental preparation: Be sure to find a quiet and undisturbed place with good telephone signal, where you can speak freely.
Pronunciation preparation: During the interview, two people could have known each other's mood and conversation rhythm through some body language and expressions, but the telephone interview cut off this channel. Relatively speaking, the interview is actually more difficult. You can't know the real meaning of the HR question from the other party's live reaction, and you can't find clues to adjust the direction of the conversation. As an interviewer, all you have to do is be polite, enthusiastic and smile when you receive a phone call, because according to the convention, your smile can actually be "heard". Students who don't believe can do experiments with tape recorders and feel the difference between their deadpan and smiling tone.
Resume preparation: when applying for a job, bring your resume with you and submit the company and job description so as to make an accurate judgment at the first time. Of course, if you can internalize your "resume" and remember the positions you have delivered, you don't have to recite these things.
Skill preparation: you must think about the general idea before answering. If the other person suddenly asks a question that has never been prepared, you can say: Can you give me half a minute/a minute to think about it? If you have already said it, but your idea is still vague, then you can add another sentence at the end to sum it up forcibly: In short, the reason why I submitted this position is 3: 00, 1 is XX, 2 is XXX and 3 is XXX.
Question preparation: The last part of the telephone interview will ask you "Do you have any questions?" If you don't have any questions, you will be exposed as an applicant who is not fully prepared and has little interest in this position. So you still need to ask 1 questions to show that you attach importance to this position, such as discussing the details of job responsibilities and asking about the structure of the company team.
Well, that's about it. I hope I can help you. For those who are still looking for a job, you can go online to recruit talents and update your resume, which is rich in job information and can help you find a satisfactory job as soon as possible!
