The work mainly includes: (1) ploughing, harrowing, resting and improving garden soil; (2) Construction, maintenance and management of horticultural facilities such as greenhouses; (3) Flower breeding, improved seed propagation and rejuvenation by pure selection; (4) sowing, raising seedlings, potted, pruning and grafting; (5) Field management such as fertilization, watering, weeding, potted plants, pruning, shaping, scaffolding and bonsai production; (6) collecting seeds and seedlings; (7) Maintenance tools.

As the authoritative organization for the professional qualification appraisal of forest-related industries in China, the Vocational Skills Appraisal Guidance Center of the State Forestry Administration conducts the professional qualification appraisal of "gardener" for the whole country, and trains a large-scale, high-level and professional gardener team.
