The country's main industries include food processing, mining, cement production, chemical fertilizer, textiles, imported oil refining and tourism. Export products include fish, chemicals, cotton, cloth, peanuts and calcium phosphate. The main foreign market is India, accounting for 26.7% of exports (1998).
Other foreign markets include the United States, Italy and Britain. As a member of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Senegal is striving to achieve regional integration and uniform tariffs. Senegal is also a member of the African Organization for the Integration of Industrial and Commercial Laws and Regulations. During the period of 1996, Senegal realized all Internet connections and created the prosperity of information technology services. The private economy now accounts for 82% of GDP.
