Brief introduction of Huai Su

Huai Su (737-799), an outstanding calligrapher in Tang Dynasty, was known as "Cao Sheng" in history. The common surname is money, and the word hides the truth. The monk named Huai Su was born in Lingling, Yongzhou (now Yongzhou, Hunan) and moved to Changsha. Qian Qi's nephew, one of Dali's ten gifted scholars.

Huai Su became a monk in his early years. From the third year (768) to the seventh year (772), I went to Beijing to visit famous artists, and the title of the book was greatly improved. In the seventh year of Dali (772), Huai Su paid a visit to Yan Zhenqing in Luoyang, and introduced his brushwork "Zhechai Gu" to Yan Zhenqing, while Yan Zhenqing told him about his "leak mark". Huai Su spoke highly of him and worshipped Yan Zhenqing as his teacher.

Yan Zhenqing wrote a master's cursive song in Huai Su. Soon, Huai Su returned to Huzhou to visit relatives. During my stay in Huzhou, I visited Lu Yu, Jiao Ran and other celebrities. After Huai Su became a monk and meditated, he continued to write. Later, I felt that I didn't have much knowledge, so I traveled around Chang 'an and Luoyang and saw some precious calligraphy products, which made him suddenly enlightened and his calligraphy improved greatly. He was addicted to cursive writing and liked to drink, and bars sprang up, so he picked up a pen and wrote. Huai Su spent his later years in Baoyuan Temple in Chengdu, Sichuan. Tang Zhenyuan died in the 15th year (799).
