Content introduction:

When it comes to culture, what comes to mind? Ballet? Poetry of Tang and Song Dynasties? Berlin Philharmonic? Titian's painting? Suzhou gardens? Fashion show?

What do you think of Germany? Mercedes? Marx? Beethoven? Bayern Munich Football Club? Leica? Merkel? Neuschwanstein Castle?

These are all cultures, but culture doesn't stop there. Those are all Germans, but Germany is more than that.

Contemporary Germany began in 1945 when World War II ended. It broke away from the shadow of the Nazis and was reborn from the ruins. Its persistence in the art of "truth, goodness and beauty" became the only beacon light in the difficult fog. Throughout history, we can liquidate the madness and evil of the Nazis from the ideological roots, and then begin to reflect on modernization. The normalization of economy and politics has brought about social changes, and traditional cultural concepts have been challenged. Old beliefs about "enlightenment" and "rationality" have been tortured. Cultural socialization and social culturalization have become the trend. With that advent of the third technological revolution. Looking back at the crossroads of the new century, the concept of culture has changed from "culture of spring and snow" to "social and political culture", and Germany has also changed from "Germany after World War II" to "contemporary Germany"-the culture we live in and the Germany we see today.

This is a comprehensive social history of contemporary Germany and a book about the theory and practice of new culture. It provides you with a different culture, a different Germany-a broader culture, a more real Germany.

(Volume I)

Glasser showed readers how German culture parted ways because the country was divided by different ideologies, and each grew up independently, until it was reunited half a century later. Men ... constructed the spiritual history of postwar Germany from the perspective of equality.

—— Chen Yu, Director of Exhibition Department I of China National Museum.

German literary and historical circles must read classics. In addition to his professional contributions, he also created narrative art. ..... This masterpiece is based on glasser's personal experience of all the history he reported, and as a writer and activist, he even influenced the German cultural and historical process for decades. Therefore, it is difficult for another historian to be so closely related to the living German history and the facts and data in it.

Oliver? Scheit, a professor at the Higher Institute of Art in Hamburg, said

(Volume II)

1945 From 2000, Germany experienced the ups and downs from division to reunification, from war to peace, from ruins to prosperity, which was dazzling. ..... Many details do not come from the long-sealed archives, but directly from the scene of the historical process, which is vivid and true. Although readers are reading history, it seems that they can be there and follow the pulse of history.

-Chen Hongjie, director of the German Research Center in Peking University.

Culture plays an increasingly important role in sociology and political science research. Glasser's History of German Culture not only records the development of contemporary German culture, but also is a detailed social history of contemporary Germany, from which the interactive influence of culture on society and politics can be confirmed.

Bridget? Professor, School of Social and Economic Sciences, University of Hamburg.
