Sertar county is located on the southeast edge of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, northwest of Ganzi Lake and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, at the junction of two provinces (Sichuan and Qinghai), three states (Aba, Ganzi and Guoluo in Qinghai) and six counties (Ryan in Rangtang, Ganzi, Luhuo and Shiqu in Aba, and Dari and Banma in Guoluo).
It is adjacent to Rangtang County, Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture in the east, to Bama and Dari counties in Qinghai Province in the north, with an altitude of 4 127 meters in the west and south, and governs 4 districts, 2 towns 15 townships and 66 administrative villages.
