During his college years, Chen Hang got excellent grades in all subjects, and often walked into orchards and vegetable fields with Professor Wu Gengmin, and gained rich practical experience. In view of the aversion to the corruption and incompetence of the Kuomintang, I yearn for the liberated areas and tend to * * *. After the founding of People's Republic of China (PRC), as a new generation of college students, Chen Hang is determined to live up to the cultivation of the motherland. She worked hard, got excellent academic performance and joined the Communist Youth League. Chen Hang, full of youthful vigor, is eagerly waiting for the call of the motherland.
1953, Chen Hang obeyed the organization and came to Xingcheng Horticultural Experimental Field of Northeast Agricultural Institute. The scenery in the north is completely different from that in the south. The cold snow, potatoes, cabbage and sorghum rice, and the hard life didn't scare her. In the northeast, she went to factories and mines, went to the countryside, did investigations and experiments, and spent most of her time eating and living in the farmhouse. After three years, she successfully completed the experiment of cultivating greenhouse vegetables by using industrial waste heat, and made unremitting efforts to solve the problem of eating vegetables in Northeast China.
With hard work, Chen Hang won the praise of colleagues and the attention of leaders. In 1950s, due to the bad weather, there was no habit of growing vegetables in the history of the People's Republic of Mongolia. The Mongolian government decided to invite experts from China to help solve the problem of local people eating vegetables. Appointed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Reclamation, Chen Hang, as the only female expert in 10, went to the Mongolian People's Republic on 1957. There, they are responsible for the greenhouse technology design and vegetable cultivation technology experiment of the newly-built food market. At that time, the conditions were extremely difficult: the land was barren, the climate was cold, and the wooden houses were simple. Chen Hang and Qi Xin, an expert group composed of Mongolian people, worked together and finally new green appeared on the wasteland, where 24 kinds of vegetables were successfully planted. Experts also provided technical and scientific basis for conservation tillage under local greenhouse conditions. To this end, the President of the People's Republic of Mongolia personally awarded Chen Hangjin Star Award.
After returning home, Chen Hang was transferred to the Fruit Research Institute of China Academy of Agricultural Sciences to investigate and collect melon variety resources in rural Henan. 196 1 year was transferred to the Vegetable Research Institute of Beijing Academy of Agricultural Sciences to build a comprehensive scientific experimental base for vegetables in Beijing suburbs. During the Cultural Revolution, she was persecuted. Together with her husband, she was sent to Shanxi and Jiangxi for rural reconstruction, which once interrupted the scientific research on vegetables and wasted several years of scientific research results. She regretted it all her life
After the downfall of the Gang of Four, the motherland ushered in a scientific spring, and Chen Hang returned to the Vegetable Research Institute of Beijing Academy of Agricultural Sciences. 65438-0979, as a visiting scholar, went to the University of Wisconsin for cooperative research. During her stay in the United States, she publicized and introduced the vegetable situation in China, and inspected agricultural universities, research institutes and laboratories in the United States, thus establishing a profound friendship with the American people. 1980, Chen Hang declined the retention of his American counterparts and resolutely returned to China.
In the early 1980s, Chen Hang served as vice president of Beijing Academy of Agricultural Sciences and director of Beijing Vegetable Research Center. In the construction project of Beijing Vegetable Research Center aided by the United Nations Development Programme and FAO, Chen Hang's plan is effective and well-organized, which has won the appreciation of officials from relevant United Nations departments. 1987, they put China, North Korea and Pakistan in charge of regional trials of vegetable varieties, and then expanded the regional scope to Thailand, Bangladesh, Nepal and other countries. At the same time, they accepted the free assistance and technical cooperation project of Japan International Cooperation Agency, and built four modern laboratories in the Vegetable Research Center of Beijing Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences, with first-class vegetable research facilities in China. Her dream has finally come true. 199 1 year, royal horticultural society awarded Chen Hangwei Ji the Gold Award in recognition of her contribution to world gardening and international communication, and she became the only agricultural expert in China at that time.
During more than 40 years' vegetable research career, Chen Hang has made more than 20 scientific research achievements, successfully completed 5 international projects and published 38 papers at home and abroad. 199 1 was awarded the title of young and middle-aged expert with outstanding contributions in Beijing and national level respectively, and was elected as the representative of the thirteenth and fourteenth national congresses of the Party.
China has a long history of vegetable cultivation, but the technical equipment in the field of vegetable research is very backward compared with developed countries. 1980 after returning from the university of Wisconsin in the United States, Chen Hang presided over the "study on the nutritional quality and health care value of vegetables" according to the characteristics and development trend of vegetable production and consumption in China, and took the lead in establishing a seed physiological inspection laboratory and a vegetable nutritional quality laboratory, which opened up a systematic study in this field. The database system of vegetable nutrition quality established by her has studied the nutritional value and health care function of more than 20 kinds of vegetables, studied the anticancer and mutagenic effects of vegetables for the first time, separated and extracted the active substances for disease prevention and health care, and screened out a number of substances with health care value such as cruciferous vegetables and edible fungi, which laid the foundation for the development and utilization of disease prevention and health care vegetable resources and the development of vegetable diet therapy. This research is a new development of vegetable application science, which has attracted the attention of international experts and received the support of foreign research funds such as Germany. This research is at an advanced level at home and abroad.
The national natural science foundation project undertaken by Chen Hang focuses on the preservation of vegetable vigor, systematically discusses the relationship between vegetable seed vigor and environmental conditions and its inheritance, as well as the changes of vigor during seed pretreatment and preservation, and puts forward the treatment technology and preservation technology. The standard project of vegetable seed production and inspection, which she presided over, was studied by experts in the same industry, and the procedures, methods, variety purity and seed quality inspection of improved vegetable varieties were formulated. According to the actual situation in Beijing and referring to the information at home and abroad, the relevant technical standards were determined, and the Technical Specification for Vegetable Seed Production and Variety Purity Inspection in Beijing was formulated, which filled the domestic gap and won the second prize of Beijing Science and Technology Progress Award.
Exploring advanced vegetable cultivation techniques is Chen Hang's lifelong goal. In 1950s, vegetables were successfully cultivated in the greenhouse with industrial waste heat in Northeast China for the first time, and greenhouse design and cultivation techniques adapted to China's national conditions were put forward, which were popularized and applied in Northeast China. Because of this, Chen Hang won the title of national agricultural model worker. During the period of assisting the People's Republic of Mongolia to establish a vegetable market, the technical measures and scientific basis of local conservation tillage were put forward, which greatly promoted the vegetable production in Mongolia. 65438-0978, Chen Hang was responsible for completing the construction of Beijing Sijiqing Vegetable Comprehensive Science and Technology Experimental Base and won the National Science and Technology Conference Award. In the "Study on Comprehensive Technology of Watermelon Quality and High Yield Extension", she took advantage of multidisciplinary cooperation and made contributions to reversing the situation of unstable watermelon production, poor quality and short supply period in Beijing for many years, so that the production and supply of watermelon in the capital reached the advanced level of developed countries (Japan, the United States and other countries), and the sugar content of watermelon increased from the original seven or eight degrees to more than ten degrees, and the average yield per unit area increased to more than 30%. The supply period was extended from 1 month to 3 months, and the per capita possession of watermelon reached about 50 kg, setting a double record of quality and quantity. This achievement won the first prize of Beijing Science and Technology Progress Award. She presided over the "Study on Comprehensive Technology and Technical and Economic Development of Vegetable Supply in Off-season in August and September" and won the second prize of Beijing Science and Technology Progress Award. In this study, the production system, production cost and optimization model of out-of-season vegetables and fruits are studied, and a linear programming model of vegetable production and marketing system is put forward by comprehensively applying economic technology and system science, which has contributed to enriching Beijing citizens' food baskets.
Chen Hang believes that vegetable science and technology has no national boundaries, and international exchanges and cooperation can promote its rapid development. She has visited and studied in the United States, Japan, Thailand, Pakistan, France, Britain, Denmark, Italy, Spain and Canada. She has presided over or participated in many international horticultural societies, Asia-Pacific vegetable expert seminars and international vegetable professional academic seminars to publicize the achievements and progress of China's vegetable research, expand the international influence of China's vegetable research, and introduce and popularize foreign new technological achievements. Xin Jing 1 watermelon cultivated by China and Japan is the crystallization of Sino-Japanese friendship, and Chen Hang has made a lot of efforts to this end. Xin Jing 1 watermelon is the best early-maturing and high-yielding variety at home and abroad, with a total extension area of 267,000 hectares. It won the first prize of scientific and technological progress of the Ministry of Agriculture, the first prize of the national early-maturing watermelon variety of the West Melon Association of China Horticultural Society, and the gold medal of 1997 National Agricultural Expo. At the same time, he is responsible for more than ten international cooperation projects such as "Watermelon Sweet Protein Gene Extraction" between China and the United States, "Postharvest Physiological Research of Vegetables" between China and Germany, and "Vegetable Variety Resources Exchange" between China and France, which has played a positive role in promoting international academic exchanges and cooperation in vegetable science and technology in China.
Chen Hang always kept in mind the warning of Professor Wu Gengmin, a famous gardener, and paid attention to both learning and practice. She is usually taciturn, but she is meticulous and down-to-earth.
The northeast climate is cold, and it is difficult to eat fresh vegetables in winter and off-season. Chen, who grew up in Jiangnan, came to the northeast, and her living conditions and natural environment were severe tests for her. However, with a high sense of professionalism and responsibility, she worked hard and selflessly to solve the problem of local people eating fresh vegetables in winter and off-season. Mongolia is a grassland people, mainly eating beef and mutton. Chen Hang, who doesn't usually eat meat, can only drink soup. She overcame many difficulties in life and insisted on vegetable experiments. In Beijing Sijiqing Comprehensive Experimental Base, she led a service team composed of technicians such as planting, greenhouse, plant protection and meteorology, and insisted on eating, living and working with farmers. At that time, she suffered from heart disease, but she still insisted on watering and fertilizing with everyone at 6 am. That year, her little daughter was hospitalized due to illness, and she couldn't spare time to visit, so other comrades-in-arms stopped by to look at her. The farmer friend said that she had no shelf, and her colleagues were even more moved by her behavior. 1976 Tangshan earthquake spread to Beijing. On the second day after the earthquake, Chen Hang led everyone to continue their scientific experiments. It is these people who, after Chen Hang, became the technical backbone of vegetable research in the unit.
Chen Hang lived a simple life and was strict with himself. Her lover works in the army and her residence changes at any time. According to the level, she can go to work by bus every day, but she insists on crowding the bus or riding a bike like the masses. She asked herself not to be divorced from the masses.
Chen Hang attaches great importance to the talent construction of the unit. During her tenure, more than 40 people went abroad for further study, which improved their professional level and added vitality to the scientific research of the unit. As an adjunct professor at Zhejiang Agricultural University, Chen Hang has trained nearly 20 doctoral and master students, many of whom have gone abroad for further study.
