Precautions.
First, the content is not long enough to hold up a resume.
The length of English resumes of recent graduates is generally 1-2 pages, the page size is generally A4, and the text font does not exceed 12. Many students feel that their undergraduate experience is too little, there is not much to write about, and they have not tapped the value from their experience, resulting in very little information, and obviously they can't finish writing a page.
Second, the overall logic is scattered and the purpose is not strong.
All the information is listed simply and rudely. There is no logical order, and there is no logical focus between different experiences. Almost all are presented in the same space. Obviously, there is a lack of thinking about the overall logical framework of resumes.
Third, there are too many descriptive words and the key points are not prominent.
In a few cases, describe too many experiences and details, as well as personal thoughts and feelings. Ignore a problem: resume is a highly summarized and concise document, which requires candidates to come straight to the point and make the finishing point. It cannot and should not carry too much descriptive and subjective information.
Fourth, information is superficial and lacks key value.
This should be the most common and serious problem. The information provided by many candidates is often "taken for granted", giving people a feeling of "superficial information is simply piled up". No matter whether this information is valuable to readers or not, it will cause confusion and even misunderstanding. A lot of information gives people the feeling of "anodyne" and can't really understand its expression intention.
To sum up, there are two main reasons for these problems:
1. Candidates lack an overall understanding of the purpose of writing resumes, which leads to confusion in logical structure and lack of logical focus.
2. The applicant lacks the ability to explore the key value of information, which leads to the superficial information displayed and the lack of "reader-centered" thinking.
First of all, deeply understand your application goal and confirm your writing goal.
Many people simply attribute the purpose of resume to sorting out and presenting their own experiences, but this is only the appearance. In fact, whether it is your resume or any other application documents, our goal should be only one: to convince the admissions officer that you are a qualified or excellent applicant and give the other party the reason to admit you.
To put it another way, it is not enough to just prove that you are excellent. This is exactly what you need for the project you are applying for!
So before writing your resume, you must be very familiar with the professional project you are applying for. We require students to have a full understanding of the applied project before writing the document, including: teaching purpose, curriculum, core curriculum content, application requirements, etc. The purpose of this requirement is obvious: know yourself and know yourself, and be targeted.
With this information, you will naturally know your writing goal: my resume should show that I have the basic knowledge, professional skills, personal abilities and characteristics needed to study this major and develop in the future related career direction. Next, the overall conception and content creation of the full text should be carried out around this clear goal!
Second, according to the goal, establish the overall logical framework.
1. On the whole, the resume is divided into two parts: academic experience and non-academic experience. Each part is subdivided into one or more sub-blocks, and each block defines its own writing goal.
2. For the content description of each specific experience, there is also a clear guiding standard: its relevance and support to the overall writing goal.
Third, give writing weight according to relevance and importance.
Benchmark for full-text writing: write relevant, not completely irrelevant; Write more if the correlation is high, and write less if the correlation is low (of course, the strength of this correlation needs to be judged by yourself). When writing a resume, from the overall visual point of view, it must be the most important part, and less important information is mostly used to fill the space.
The description of specific experience follows the principle of "providing more important and specific information and less unimportant and abstract information", so that the written resume is attractive and convincing to readers, rather than the author's wishful thinking.
Fourthly, refine the core content according to the writing purpose.
It is very important to set the content of each block according to the purpose of writing, which can help you show what you want to present more deeply and sharply, and more importantly, let readers better understand your intention.
For example, "educational experience" should be included in every resume. You can simply list a few courses at will, or even not mention them at all. You can also list the courses related to your applied major to prove that you have relevant knowledge. You can simply write down your school grades. Of course, you can also try to explain that your grades have been rising in the past, or that your grades in major-related courses are high (unimportant courses lower your total score), or that you are very good at math-related courses, and so on.
In short, even a problem that we are used to can be presented in very different forms and with different writing purposes and ideas. We just need to remember one truth: any writing should have its own purpose-persuading others to do something. Don't just think about what you want to say, think about what you want to convince others.
Fifth, let people know not only why, but also why.
If you want to write something more convincing, you must remember that you can't just "write" yourself, but always consider whether the reader can "see".
Others in this world may never care about themselves as much as you do, so it takes a snack to really let others know about you and understand your thoughts.
