Wen Yiduo and Song of Seven Sons

(Zhang Jinwen)

-

The simple, sincere and touching theme song in the large-scale TV documentary "Macau Years" aroused strong response from the audience. After listening to this song, everyone burst into tears and regarded it as the "theme song" to welcome Macao's return.

But many people don't know that the lyrics of this song are not a new work written for the return of Macao. It is the first poem in a group named Song of Seven Sons more than 70 years ago, written by Wen Yiduo, a late professor, famous patriotic scholar and poet in our school.

It was in the first half of the 1920s that Wen Yiduo, who had just graduated from Tsinghua University, crossed the ocean to study in the United States.

Since 1922, he has studied fine arts at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts, the University of Colorado in Kequan and the new york Art Institute successively, and has continuously devoted a lot of energy to the creation of new poetry and literary research that started several years ago.

Living alone in a foreign country, Wen Yiduo has a deep attachment to his motherland and hometown; In the western "civilized" society, I personally experienced the humiliation of many racial discrimination and aroused a strong sense of national pride.

It is against this background that Wen Yiduo created many patriotic and homesick works, such as Song of Seven Sons.

The full text of Song of Seven Sons is:

The mother of seven is on pins and needles.

Seven sons feel sorry for themselves, hoping to return to their mother's heart.

The poet wrote "Kai Feng" to praise it.

From the treaty of Nebuchadnezzar Chu to the lease treaty of Luda, our country lost its land, lost the support of the motherland, suffered all kinds of abuse, and suffered its sorrow, which was more than Kaifeng's seventh son. Because it has chosen seven places that have the closest relationship with China, each song has written a chapter to express its loneliness and death, to mourn for the motherland at an early date, and to inspire the people to cheer up.

The collapse of national borders is a long-term accumulation, and Chinese people regard it as indifference.

French alsace-lorraine didn't see her husband? "If you are sincere, the stone will open."

In fact, the return of China's seven sons is in jeopardy?

Macao

Do you know that "Ma Gang" is not my real name?

I've been away from your children for too long, mom!

But what they took was my body,

You still have my soul.

I've dreamed of my biological mother for 300 years!

Please call your son by his birth name and call me "Macau"!

Mom! I want to come back, mom!

Hong Kong

I am like Huang Bao who keeps vigil in front of Fengge.

Mother, although my position is very small, my situation is very dangerous.

Now the terrible sea lion pounced on me,

Spit my flesh and swallow my ointment;

Mom, I cried and howled, but I shouldn't have called you.

Mom, let me hide in your arms!

Mom! I want to come back, mom!

Taiwan Province Province, China

We are a string of pearls in the East China Sea.

Ryukyu is my younger brother, and I am from Taiwan Province Province.

I still have Zheng's heroic spirit in my chest.

Loyal blood dyed my heirloom red.

Mom, the cool summer is killing me;

Give me an order and I can still attack the city.

Mom! I want to come back, mom!

Weihai port

Let me protect the oldest sea in China again,

The original sacred mountain on the shore here is.

Mom, don't forget that I am an expert in preventing the sea.

I have a Liu Gongdao as my shield.

Come back, it's time.

The remains of saints are buried behind me!

Mom! I want to come back, mom!

Guangzhou bay

The East China Sea and Hungary are my double keys.

I am an iron lock at the back door of China.

Why did you lend me to a thief?

Mom, you should never abandon me!

Mom, let me come back to you quickly.

I want to hold your ankle tightly.

Mom! I want to come back, mom!

Kowloon

My brother Hong Kong is complaining about his pain.

Mom, do you still remember your Kowloon?

Ever since I married Zhenhai Devil,

I have never shed tears for a day!

Mother, I count the auspicious days of mothering every day.

I'm afraid that hope will become an empty dream.

Mom! I want to come back, mom!

Dalian Lushun

We are Lushun and Dalian, twin brothers.

How should our destinies be compared?

Two strong neighbors kicked me back and forth,

We are two mud balls at the foot of the mob.

Mom, it's time to go back. Bring us back quickly.

You have no idea how much our children miss you!

Mom! We'll be back, mom!

This group of poems was written in March 1925, when Wen Yiduo was in new york.

In its preface, alsace-lorraine is translated into Lorraine region, which is located at the foot of Faust Mountain in eastern France. It was ceded to Germany in the Franco-Prussian War and returned after the Treaty of Versailles.

In the poem, Wen Yiduo compares seven pieces of "lost land" plundered by foreign powers to seven children who are far away from their mothers, crying about their strong feelings of being bullied by foreign countries and eager to return to their mothers' arms.

On the one hand, poetry expresses nostalgia and praise for the motherland, on the other hand, it expresses the curse to the imperialist powers.

Less than two months after writing Song of Seven Sons, Wen Yiduo ended his study abroad career ahead of schedule with the ideal of joining the ranks of serving the motherland as soon as possible. He left for home in May of that year and arrived in Shanghai by boat in June 1.

However, what Wen Yiduo, who just set foot on the land of the motherland, never expected was that he was greeted by wet blood stains on the street. Two days ago, the "May 30th Massacre" in which imperialism massacred our broad masses of people just happened.

Wen Yiduo, who was shrouded in disappointment and even despair, angrily went north and met Yang Zhensheng, editor-in-chief of Modern Review, who had just returned from the United States.

The same experience, feelings and anger brought them together. Wen Yiduo decided to publish several poems, such as Song of Seven Sons, Wake Up and Patriotic Heart, which were originally intended for Dajiang Quarterly magazine, to Modern Review in advance.

On July 4th 1925, The Song of Seven Sons was published in the 30th issue of Modern Review, Volume 2.

1 October 25th issue of Dajiang Quarterly1Volume 165438 also published this poem, and Wen Yiduo made some modifications to some words in the poem.

At this time, it was the * * * period of China people's anti-imperialist and anti-feudal struggle, so the Song of Seven Sons aroused strong resonance as soon as it came out.

After reading it, a young man who signed Wu Rang recommended that it be reprinted in the joint issue of Tsinghua Weekly, Volume 30,No.1andNo. 12, and wrote a postscript saying: "Those who are not moved by reading the model are disloyal; Those who read Chen Qingbiao without tears are unfilial; The ancients said it again and again.

After reading Song of Seven Sons, I heard a lot of sad words, but I didn't know my eyes were full of tears. When I read Teacher and Chen Qing, I was never so moved.

Today, I recorded a chat that made readers shed tears of sympathy, and I never forgot the cry of Qizi. "

However, this group of poems did not include Wen Yiduo's two famous poems, Red Candle and Dead Water, nor did they include Wen Yiduo's complete works. So it has not been familiar to people for a long time.

Until 1997, when celebrating the return of Hong Kong to the motherland, someone mentioned this group of poems written more than 70 years ago.

In April of that year, Tsinghua Alumni Newsletter published the article "Revisiting the Seven Sons of Song Dynasty and Remembering Wen Yiduo" by Shi Gongqiu, an alumnus of grade 1947.
