Chen Zhifeng: Second was never our choice, Chen Zhifeng.
August 10, 2007, Seoul, Korea. All the spotlights are focused on the podium of imagine cup 2007 Microsoft imagine cup Global Finals. On the big screen on the left side of the podium, a short film specially made for this event flashed from the camera like a roller coaster. 27 medals in 9 events, who will win? The 1 12 team members and all the guests from 59 countries and regions opened their eyes wide.

When the host announced that "the first prize winner of the IT Challenge Project was Chen Zhifeng", the applause was thunderous.

Chen Zhifeng, a sophomore at Huazhong University of Science and Technology, majored in water supply and drainage engineering instead of computer. Many media called him a "genius", and Chen Zhifeng smiled evenly. He knows that behind the aura, it is inseparable from the computer fate of nearly ten years and the experience of co-creation and penance of two years. At this moment, he strengthened what Lianchuang teammates often said: "The second is never our option!"

Ten years of obsession with computers is like a cat chasing its tail.

"Rome was not built in a day." Chen Zhifeng doesn't want others to call him a genius. When he was in the third grade of primary school, he began to play computer. In that era marked by learning, Chen Zhifeng showed extraordinary interest in computers. His name spread among relatives and friends, and he was required to own a computer in the fifth grade of primary school.

In order to sit firmly on the throne of the game "prawn", he was fascinated by complicated DOS commands. "Reading other books will make you fall asleep, but computer books won't." He often patronizes my driver and PC online website, "looking for ways to optimize the system on my driver, watching hardware quotations on PC online, and dreaming about when to upgrade the computer." Chen Zhifeng said frankly, "In order to play games, I did my best to upgrade my computer, but I didn't expect to lay the foundation for the future." So far, he has used six computers, changed the CPU four times, the motherboard three times and the graphics card three times.

"What I remember most is a graphics card I changed in grade three, 1200 yuan." Chen Zhifeng particularly emphasized the price of 1200.

Chen Zhifeng's crazy computer playing makes his parents worry that his son will be depressed because of playing things. Every time his mother reminds him, he will bet on his grades. On one occasion, he bet the top three in his grade that the prize was a video card. Chen Zhifeng, who has been wandering around the 30th grade, really got into the top three, but her mother's reward didn't come down. "It was a long time before I got this graphics card. I'm not angry. I understand that my mother doesn't want to honor her promise, but objective conditions limit her. " It turned out that my family was not rich and could not meet my son's requirements, so my mother secretly shed tears. In order not to disappoint him, he finally borrowed money to buy back his son's long-awaited Nvidia Geforce 2 Pro graphics card.

This incident left a deep impression on Chen Zhifeng. Sensible, he began to save pocket money to upgrade his computer, and his performance never worried his family again. At the lowest point of his study, he took the initiative to hide the computer in the attic. When my fingers itch, I don't want to play when I see that the computer needs to be installed before I can use it. He proved to his parents that he was good enough: he was admitted to Huazhong University of Science and Technology, a national key university.

Get ready to take off from Lianchuang.

Ten years before college, Chen Zhifeng summed it up as the interest training stage. When he entered the university, Chen Zhifeng felt that he should turn his hobby into a resource and start reading books on computer science. He didn't know what to do, so he chose the book published by Tsinghua University Publishing House. It was not until one day half a year later that he happened to meet the Lianchuang team recruiting new students in the School of Environmental Science and Engineering, and he immediately signed up. He knows that the stage of hobbies and ideals is already in front of him, just waiting for him to fight for it.

Lianchuang is a team composed of a group of computer enthusiasts from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and has always been famous for winning famous science and technology competitions at home and abroad. Team recruitment has always been a tradition of five exams and "night trial" (answering questions all night), with 20 pages of English test questions and 5 reference books related to exams. The intense work that lasted for nine hours didn't make Chen Zhifeng back down. When he first came into close contact with relevant theories, he found himself just a child picking up shells at the seaside, far from the deep sea without computers.

Based on the advantages of English and practical ability, he joined the IT group. IT can be said that Lianchuang team is an "IT devil training camp", which has to accept a lot of computer knowledge and complete the task of sweating in a week. Old teammates will recommend some books about Windows system, and they will consult them first, and then start to operate. In Lianchuang, Chen Zhifeng read a lot of books related to computers, from network technology to IT operation to design and development.

Students often joke that Chen Zhifeng lived an alien life after joining the Co-Creation Team. He can send and receive more than 20 emails a day that others can't understand, and he is skilled in shuttling between English etiquette. You can lie in front of the computer and work hard for ten hours. When you are hungry, you can drink water and eat bread. Just like a whim in junior high school, a few English letters were randomly combined to produce the English name YeGGo. Some of his "neuroticism" is often shown in his co-creation works, and the inspiration that occasionally flashes is immediately recorded, and then tested and verified.

To him, the computer is like a cat chasing its tail, and it never tires. Chen Zhifeng thinks people should be interested in it.

Co-creation is a complete experience for him. In Lianchuang, what he thinks about every day is how to design a stable, safe and efficient IT architecture. "How to put the server and how much to put on each network segment are all studied, and only in Lianchuang can we provide enough hardware resources for me to do simulation experiments with virtual machines." Every experiment of Lianchuang paved the way for the success of this competition in Chen Zhifeng.

Huazhong University of Science and Technology is the soil for him to learn innovative learning, active learning and learning in practice. He tried to absorb nutrition in this environment and achieve self-transcendence.

Design a more beautiful system architecture than Mona Lisa.

Chen Zhifeng is no stranger to Microsoft imagine cup, which is the largest student science and technology competition in the world. In 2006, as the youngest member of Lianchuang team, I participated in the I T project in imagine cup with the feeling of winning, and won the top five in China. Although he failed to reach the final, it was his first "preparation".

"How can a school with 5000 students and 100 teachers provide better education with technology, so as to realize multimedia interactive teaching, virtual laboratory and online homework submission ..." The title of the second round of "Creative Cup" was in April 2007, four months after Chen Zhifeng passed the first round of Microsoft Global Student Competition IT project team. As early as June 5438+February 2006, he had easily passed the preliminary contest ―― answering 30 questions on the Internet in 30 minutes, which was not a problem for him.

Since April, Chen Zhifeng has entered the core design stage of the second round. The works required for the contest are highly innovative. IT is necessary to design an IT system architecture that conforms to the actual environment and realize it technically. The design was completed in one and a half months, which put forward higher requirements for the contestants.

In order to seek better performance, security and stability, Chen Zhifeng made many assumptions, and occasionally he was inspired. After careful consideration, the prototype of IT system architecture gradually became clear in his mind, and he wrote his ideas into a 18 page illustrated solution document.

According to the technical architecture of region, network segment, server and application system, he divided the whole network architecture into three areas: peripheral public area, middle boundary area, internal core area and firewall "two walls" between the two areas, forming a defense-in-depth system and highlighting the security and stability of the design.

The second round of core design stage was completed, and the final scheme was based on the concept of "three zones and two walls", with a total of 9 7 servers. He proposed a reduced version, which made full use of the existing 1 0 computers, and finally completed a paper sketch. "I am 90% sure about the feasibility of the project. If I want to win, I will win here!"

"I estimate that there is no problem in entering the top three, and the possibility of taking the first place is quite high." Recalling the final in August, Chen Zhifeng was still excited. "The venue is closed, but the rooms are separated by partitions, so we can feel each other. When the examiner made a surprise inspection, I felt that those opponents might not be as good as my architectural design. "

The results were announced, and Chen Zhifeng lived up to expectations and finally won the title.

Every morning, when the first morning light of Yuyuan Garden shines into the Lianchuang team studio on the seventh floor of Qinyuan 10 building, Chen Zhifeng is already sitting in front of the computer. Computers can be seen everywhere, with messy technical books, food, cups and mobile phones interspersed among them. Climbing to the peak of Microsoft imagine cup, Chen Zhifeng has a higher goal in his heart. "I hope to go abroad, especially to Stanford University or Washington University for further study. Stanford is close to Silicon Valley and Washington is close to Microsoft. I hope to be an intern in those big companies and let me have a deeper understanding of the operation of foreign IT companies. "

Link Microsoft's "Imagination Cup" Global Student Competition was founded in 2003, aiming to encourage young people to exert their imagination, enthusiasm and creativity, join in scientific and technological innovation and make contributions to today's world.
