At present, the Cenozoic basalts in eastern China are mainly studied.
There are a large number of Cenozoic basalts in the eastern coastal areas of China, which are 4000 kilometers long. Their geochemical characteristics are very similar to those of typical oceanic island basalts, but the understanding of their genesis and background is still superficial. By analyzing the elemental geochemistry and radioisotope (Sr, nd, Hf, Pb) composition of basalt, our research group explained the genesis of basalt, and discussed the lithologic composition of asthenosphere mantle and the fate of its heavy cycle crust.
