Chlorite is a layered silicate mineral. Chlorite usually refers to mineral species mainly containing magnesium and iron, namely clinoptilolite and oolitic chlorite. It is a rock-forming mineral of some metamorphic rocks. Magnesium-iron minerals in igneous rocks, such as biotite, amphibole and pyroxene, are easy to form chlorite under the action of low-temperature hot water. Its color is green, with different shades and different iron content. The glass is glossy to dull, and the cleavage surface can be pearlescent. It is mainly the product of low-temperature hydrothermal process, shallow metamorphism and sedimentation.
In igneous rocks, chlorite is mostly the product of alteration such as pyroxene, amphibole and biotite. Iron-rich chlorite is mainly produced in sedimentary iron ore. Oolitic chlorite deposited in the sea can be used for iron ore mining if it reaches the industrial utilization index. There are as many as ten kinds of chlorite, and chlorite containing chromium ions is called chromium chlorite, which is purple in color and can be used as handicrafts and decorations. Chlorite is very similar to mica, but the former is green, elastic and inelastic.
Chlorite protolith is mainly produced in the depths of the mountains in the upper reaches of Dadu River, and it is a river pebble formed by green basalt. Its hardness is about 2-2.5, tender green to dark green, and it is granular, plate-like and blocky. Due to the development of rock inclusions, it is easy to form various forms.
Chlorite is delicate in texture, oily green in color and very elegant. It can be divided into molding stone, painting stone (ink painting stone), prehnite, plum blossom stone, blue glaze stone (painted pottery stone) and so on. Shaped stones are easy to form shapes such as arhats, figures, heads and various animals. They are generally round and beautiful, with light green, yellow green, dark green and other colors. The combination of shape and pattern is like a natural sculpture, with natural patina on the stone surface, which has both the characteristics of Changjiang stone and its own charm. The prehistoric megalithic particles are distributed in grape shape, and the stone shape is mostly melon shape. The stone body is covered with white, yellow and light green raised patterns, which looks like grapes are ripe for people to taste. There is also a rare plum blossom stone, which is raised by small round grains, and sometimes has strip-shaped branches, which are shaped like green sepals and plums. It is luxurious and elegant and beautiful. The texture or pattern on the stone surface of green mud ink painting has the charm of traditional ink painting in China. The ink painting stone is elegant in style, and the black lines are very similar to the sketch pen-and-ink drawing.
