Hongnong, a county-level administrative division established for a long time from Han Dynasty to Northern Song Dynasty, has always been the seat of hongnong county. When Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty set up Hongnong County, it was also called Hongnong, which was the beginning of Hongnong County and was located along the Yellow River in the northeast of lingbao city, Sanmenxia City, Henan Province.
During the Sui Dynasty, the scope of hongnong county was reduced and it lost its jurisdiction along the Yellow River. Although it retained the name of Hongnong County, it moved to the southwest of lingbao city today. Since then, Hongnong County once had the name of Hengnong and Changnong, and it was not until 1997 that it was renamed as Guolve because of the name of Zhou Guo that it lost the name of Hongnong.
