This is a tragic and vicious incident that happened in the late Tang Dynasty, planned by Li Zhen and others and led by the powerful minister Zhu Wen: the disaster of the white horse.
At that time, the Tang Dynasty was no longer brilliant. After Huang Chao and Wang Xianzhi launched the peasant war, they declined. Zhu Wen, a native of Zhushan, Songzhou, was an unfaithful speculator in the peasant uprising army. Later, the insurgents took refuge in Ye Li, Tang Zhaozong, and gained their trust and reuse. He used all his strength to punish Huang Chao and beat Li Keyong, Henan and four towns (Xuanwu, Xuanyi, Tian Ping and He Zhong) to gain self-esteem.
In 904 AD, Zhu Wen, who suspected that Tang Zhaozong was in the way, set out to secretly kill his cronies and changed Prince Lizhu, who was only 13 years old, to Zhao Xuan, the emperor known as Tang Aidi in history, thus acting arbitrarily and taking charge of the ruling and opposition parties.
However, the "incorruptible" literati loyal to the Tang Dynasty, headed by Prime Minister Pei Shu, refused to give in to Zhu Wen's arrogance and still stood proudly in the imperial court and died without regret. The Tang royal family still has nine sons, which makes Zhu Wen feel sore throat and can't do anything for a while. So, under the leadership of Zhu Wen, he was in power, and he wanted to usurp the Tang Dynasty and proclaimed himself emperor. His ministers quickly added fuel to the fire, and it was easy to find an excuse for the massacre. The fuse was an unusual personnel motion of the court in March 905.
Because the position of "TaiChangQing" was vacant, Zhu Wen proposed to Pei Shu to appoint his confidant Zhang as TaiChangQing. Pei Shu thought that Tai Changqing was a civilian in charge of etiquette, not suitable for being a soldier, and should be a scholar-bureaucrat, so he refused Zhu Wen's proposal. Pei Shu's move angered Zhu Wen, who was capricious and monopolized by power. He felt that he had no face. It was on this ground that he raised a cruel butcher knife, which led to the "white horse disaster" lamented by the Tang Dynasty.
In February 1905, Zhu Wen asked Tang Aidi to recall his younger brother, who was a simple and honest man. At that time, Zhu was also an official of Pingzhang and Annan's special envoy. At the same time, Tang and others held a banquet in Jiuqu Pool, and on the grounds that "the Tang royal family held an activity to worship the land god in spring", in the name of mourning the emperor, they informed the nine princes of the Tang royal family to attend. Nine honest governors, De, Di Wangyou, Qian Wangyou, Yi Wangyou, Sui, Jing, Qi, Ya Wangyou and Joan Wang Xiang, the youngest is less than ten years old. How do you know that this is Zhu Wen's ambitions? Nine princes all rushed to Jiuqu Pool to attend the banquet. Drunk, strangled and thrown into the pool. This is a feast in Jiuqu Pool, which is known as "killing nine kings in one meal".
As a result, Zhu Wen began a series of intensive personnel adjustments to rectify the "clean stream": first, Pei Shu was removed from the phase of Dugu Lost and Cui Yuan, and Pei Shu was replaced by a left servant, and soon he was demoted to Dengzhou Secretariat, and then he was demoted to Longzhou Secretariat; The loss of Dugu was appointed as our army's envoy to Jinghai, and was soon demoted to prefectural secretariat, and later to Qiongzhou secretariat; Cui Yuan was replaced by right assistant minister, and was soon demoted to Laizhou secretariat, and then to Baizhou Division. Wang Zan, assistant minister of the Taige Ministry of War in the three provinces, was demoted to be in charge of Weifang, Lu Kang, the official department minister, Wang Shu, the official department minister, was demoted to be in charge of Zizhou, and Zhao Chong, the abdicated Taibao Prince, was demoted to be in charge ... He also ordered Zhang, Yang Shehua, the official department assistant minister, and Qinghai to make Liu Yin the same position.
At that time, the "clean" scholar-officials in the imperial court were all empty and controlled by their cronies. ? Zhu Wen is still not at ease. The "incorruptible" scholar-bureaucrat headed by Pei Shu was relegated only in March, and then he launched a vicious measure to eradicate it in one fell swoop, which is the "white horse disaster" described at the beginning of the article.
After a series of killings, the forces loyal to the Tang Clan were basically eliminated, so the helpless Emperor Ai had to make an edict to promote Zhu Wen as Prime Minister, with a total of 108, making Wang Wei and adding nine tin. Two years later, in 907 AD, Zhu Wen made Tang Aidi King Yin Ji and moved to Cao Zhou, forcing him to meditate. Zhu Wen destroyed Tang Dengdabao and changed his surname to Liang, known as Liang Taizu in history. The year after Tang Aidi arrived in Cao Zhou, he still didn't escape the disaster, but was "killed" by Zhu Wen at the age of 17.
Although Zhu Wen established the Liang Dynasty, his fate was also tragic: he was murdered by his son Zhu after only six years in office.
Evil is rewarded with evil, and heaven is clear.
