/kloc-Before the 0/8th century, Gaotang in Shandong was a thoroughfare from north to south. According to historical records, the five emperors of Ming and Qing Dynasties were stationed in Gaotang nine times. There are two palaces in Gaotang, one of which is Xueyuan Temple in the county. The Academy was founded in the Zhenguan period of the Tang Dynasty. There is a pagoda in the temple, which is 36 feet high and octagonal in plane. After the maintenance of Song, Ming and Qing dynasties, Xueyuan has become a famous temple of considerable scale in northwest Shandong, with incense lasting for thousands of years. Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty stayed in the Academy in Gaotang, leaving two poems, Nostalgia in Gaotang and Shiliyuan. In Looking Back at the Ancient Tang Dynasty, Gan Long wrote: "The spring breeze occasionally passes through Qi Yi, and the rain has nothing to do with Wang Chu's dream;" Seeing the east wind waiting for the golden horse, why not look forward to keeping Gaotang; Exquisite sun shadows mark the dome tower, and the water waves are far away; I am deeply ashamed of letting Cheng Kang remember the punishment that ponies can become vulgar. " It seems that Ganlong has feelings for Gaotang.

Reconstruction began in 2004, and Master Jueying, vice president and secretary general of Shandong Buddhist Association, was appointed as the abbot of the university. On September 9, 2006, the opening ceremony of the Buddha statue in the abbot of Xueyuan Temple in Gaotang County and the groundbreaking ceremony of Daxiong Hall were held in Xueyuan Temple in Gaotang County.

In September 2006, Gaotang University was officially opened. Since its opening, all the monks in the temple have established a firm belief in patriotism, love of religion, spreading dharma and benefiting students, and actively serving the society. They take part in various social welfare activities, organize monks in monasteries to rectify environmental sanitation, remove garbage, receive tourists from scenic spots and give free explanations, which embodies the spirit of "Buddhism on earth". On the Arbor Day on March 12, 2007, the monks of this temple raised 70,000 yuan to buy a batch of pine trees and planted them in Daixue Garden. Beautify the temple landscape and green the scenic environment. Xueyuan Temple is not only a clean Buddhist temple where monks live and practice, but also the best place for sightseeing in Gaotang, which really makes people appreciate the highest state of harmonious coexistence between man and nature and adds luster to the tourism and cultural undertakings in Gaotang. At present, the planned "Daxiong Hall" is under construction. After completion, the hall is 42 meters high and dedicated to the Buddha statue as high as 16 meters, which is called "the largest indoor Buddha statue in Shandong Province". I pray for the Ten Virtues, the Four Seas Tana, and the Lonely Land. In view of my slight gratitude, I share my joy, give up my heart and give alms to fellow practitioners. Concentrate on becoming a giant, accumulate sand into a sea, and build a treasure hall on the shore of Qiuhu Lake.
