The so-called CPT (course practice training) and OPT (optional practice)
Generally speaking, training is a "internship certificate", which is available to undergraduates, masters and doctors. In other words, the United States government recognizes your application to the Immigration Bureau. After approval, you can find a company to do an internship. The difference between the two is that CPT can be used during the study period, and the duration can be close to one year, but it can't be over one year; OPT is used after graduation. In recent years, you have arranged for yourself for a whole year. Now you are required to be unemployed for no more than 90 days in a year. However, if the company joins the personal identity STEM of USCIS, it can be extended to 36 months.
Second, interpersonal network.
Everything in China is related. Without the help of acquaintances, some things may be difficult to move, and things that are difficult for people may be green all the way. In America, it really depends on the relationship. It's just that Americans pay more attention to personal ability, because talented and capable people will have more opportunities and a better environment to make achievements. Moreover, American "relationships" usually recommend opportunities or help to you after understanding your ability or personality, which is different from domestic "relationships".
Of course, American companies need to advertise or go through headhunting companies, which costs a lot of money. Therefore, employees will also be encouraged to recommend talents, and at the same time, cash rewards will be given to referees. Driven by interests, there will definitely be people who are willing to "squeeze in" to help you. Of course, you have to have the ability, otherwise no one will help you even if you have a referral bonus, because you may have to wipe your ass and ruin TA's reputation in the company.
Third, experience is king and internship is indispensable.
This is actually normal. No matter in China or the United States, there is not a family unit that doesn't like experienced people. On the one hand, you can get started directly and create value; On the other hand, it also saves the time and money cost of training. In the American job market, the most popular engineers are those who have several years of work experience, can work independently and have lower salary requirements than senior engineers. This kind of people have a lot of room for salary increase and hope to get more jobs.
Offer, raise the salary a lot.
Students in China generally lack work experience. If the job search fails, they can find an internship first. Internship is not only found when you graduate. Most schools stipulate that you can use CPT for internship as long as you have studied for two semesters. Start early, don't cram before graduation, what's more, you can't report if you want to.
