Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences was established in 1952. It is integrated by Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics of Chinese Academy of Sciences (the former instrument hall and electromechanical research institute were founded in 1952) and Changchun Institute of Physics of China Academy of Sciences (the former Institute of Technical Physics of Jilin Branch was founded in 1958). It is the earliest research institute of optics, machinery, optical engineering technology and luminescence in New China, mainly engaged in the research and development of luminescence, applied optics, optical engineering, precision machinery and instruments.
Changchun university of science and technology (formerly Changchun Institute of Optics and Mechanics) is located in Changchun City, Jilin Province. It is a teaching and research university featuring photoelectric technology, integrating optics, mechanics, electricity, calculation and materials, and coordinating the development of engineering, science, literature, economics, management, art and law. Jointly built by Jilin Province, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and Changchun City, it enjoys the reputation of "the cradle of optical talents in China".
