1999 Charles Correa was appointed honorary professor of Tsinghua University. 1930 was born in India and studied architecture at the University of Michigan and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. 1958 after graduation, he set up an architectural firm in Mumbai, India, and began to practice independently.

In nearly 40 years' architectural practice, Charles Correa paid attention to the close combination of architecture and urban planning, and devoted himself to solving people's living problems brought about by the development of third world countries. As an architect, planner, activist and theorist, most of his works are designed in India, covering a wide range, from Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hall and Bhopal National Assembly to town planning and low-rise public housing in several big Indian cities such as Delhi and Mumbai. 1970 to 1975, Charles Correa was the chief architect of Maharashtra City Industrial Development Company, responsible for the planning of "New Mumbai" and presided over a city center construction project with a population of 2 million, which spanned the port development on the basis of the existing city. From 65438 to 0985, entrusted by former Prime Minister Rajimi Gandhi, he served as Chairman of the Urban Construction Department.

Charles Correa has made great achievements in urban development and low-cost housing in the Third World. 1979 was accepted as an honorary member by American Institute of Architects.

1990 won the gold medal of the international association of architects;

1994 won the Royal Award of Japan;

1998 won the Akahan Architecture Award. Charles Correa absorbed the essence from folk architecture and architectural technology. Charles Correa's architectural design, urban planning and low-cost housing have been published in many architectural magazines and books. He has done all kinds of teaching work at home and abroad. He has taught at Harvard University, University of Pennsylvania and University of Washington. He is a professor at University of London, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Cambridge University, and was awarded an honorary doctor by the University of Michigan. Correa's design embodies the traditional Indian architectural concept. Although his architectural vocabulary is modern, it combines the traditional Indian architectural spirit, theory and value.
