Attachment: Charles Kao's resume: Known as the "father of optical fiber"
Gao Kun 1933 was born in Shanghai and once lived in the French Concession. Professor Gao's father is a lawyer and his family is quite rich. He lived in a three-story house, and the third floor became Gao Kun's childhood laboratory. At first, he was most interested in chemistry and tried to make his own bomb. Mix red phosphorus powder with potassium chlorate, add water to make paste, then mix with wet mud and knead into balls. Air-dried and thrown into the street, it exploded as expected. Fortunately, I didn't hurt passers-by
1944 Moved to Hong Kong with his father, attended St. Joseph's College, and was admitted to the University of Hong Kong. However, because there was no department of electrical engineering in the University of Hong Kong at that time, he had to go to the University of London for further study. After graduating from college, he worked as an engineer in ITT and was hired as a researcher in the research laboratory. At the same time, he studied for a doctorate at the University of London, England, and graduated in 1965. Since 1963, Gao Kun has been doing theoretical and practical research on glass fiber, and has conceived a communication method that uses glass fiber to transmit laser pulses instead of metal cables to output electric pulses. 1966, Professor Gao Kun published the basic theory of using extremely pure glass as the medium to transmit light waves for communication.
