Technical characteristics of the ball
"Duo" means to take, choose and get, and also means to "paste" or connect. So Duo-ball is actually to select several spheroids and connect them according to certain laws and aesthetic rules. Although the achievements of the Chinese nation and our ancestors in mathematics are not as good as those of Greece and Rome, their artistic creation is absolutely superior, and so is the multi-ball pot.

It doesn't look like a ball in the overall shape, but the details are taken from the ball! The pot is a big ball. Of course, some pots are properly flattened for the sake of overall beauty. The lid is a half ball, the lid is another ball, and the spout and handle are a pot on the interception ball. However, if we just rely on a cross section of these spherical, hemispherical and spherical balls to piece together at will, it is a strange shape, but our ancestors are extremely clever. They picked it up and disposed of it.

Looking at the pot body, if it is a sphere, its highlight should be the middle of the sphere in perspective, and this highlight should be equidistant from top to bottom. But if you move the pot belly up a little, the pot body will be more tall and handsome, that is, the pot body has a spout and a pot handle. Although our ancestors who made pots couldn't say this geometric ratio,

There must be a straight transition and connection from the shoulder to the spout, and the connection between the spout and the lid should be supported by lines, otherwise the lid will have no foundation. Although the cover is hemispherical, it is not absolute. It can be cut as needed, and so can the cover, but the whole must be spherical, and it is neither fish nor fowl to change it into a bridge shape, a flat shape or a square shape.

The kettle must be half-bent, with a small mouth and a big root. The connection with the pot surface should be natural, as if it were turned out of the pot body. The handle of the pot should start from the shoulder of the pot, gradually taper from thick to thin, and lead to the lower abdomen of the pot, so that the whole pot looks like running water and is very smooth.

The ball pot is plain and smooth, which is simply a concise form to show its beauty connotation. If you carve calligraphy and painting on the pot body and lid, it will be redundant. Some people have done this, but the historical ones cannot leave footprints and must be eliminated. So today, Mr. Wu Guanzhong, a great painter in Yixing, does not advocate lettering and painting on the teapot. He once said to Mr. Gu Jingzhou: "The teapot is simple and elegant in shape, with simple and smooth lines ... The flavor of the times is mainly expressed by modeling, and nothing needs to be added." He refused to let him draw a teapot. Of course, Wu Guanzhong's point of view is not without prejudice, and it is not necessarily right to exclude calligraphy and painting decoration, but I am wrong about the shape of the ball jar and the like.

Historical inheritance

In the exhibition hall of ceramics museum's famous works in Yixing, there are three kinds of throwing pots: tycoon ball, post ball and chastity ball. These three shapes and other "ball pots" were made by three famous craftsmen in the history of purple sand, representing three styles in three different periods.

The ball was created by Shao Daheng of Shangyuan Village (now Zisha Village in Dingshu) in Sichuan during Jiaqing and Daoguang years in Qing Dynasty. The pot body is round and huge, rich and gorgeous, with short spout and beautiful curve; The handle of the kettle is flexible and beautiful; The spout is slightly smaller, the lid is slightly arched and the button is spherical. The whole work is generous and vivid. The tycoon is arrogant, not afraid of powerful people and not kitsch. According to folklore, his pot was hard to find, but in order to save a maid of a powerful family, the maid was killed because she broke the pot of a tycoon loved by the powerful. The tycoon took out a bamboo basket and gave it to the dignitaries. He saved the servant and left without taking a penny. The tycoon plays ball, the pot is like a man, the moon is bright and the wind is cool, high and straight.

Playing football in Youting was made by Shao Youting, a master pot maker in Shangyuan Village during Tongzhi and Guangxu periods in Qing Dynasty. Youting Pushing inherited the characteristics of "Tycoon Pushing", but boldly recreated Tycoon Pushing. The joint between the pot body and the pot cover bulges to form a neck, and the spout is slightly bent and straight, which makes the momentum more prominent. The spout design is enlarged, the lid is raised to one-third of the hemisphere, and the knob is more round, similar to ". From the aesthetic point of view, it should be said that Kicking the Ball by the Post Pavilion is a re-creation and re-development of Kicking the Ball by the Tycoon, and it plays a connecting role between Kicking the Ball by the Tycoon and Kicking the Ball by Chastity.

Shouzhen plays ball, made by Cheng Shouzhen, a famous purple sand artist from the late Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China. Cheng Shouzhen, a Taoist named Bing Xin, made three bold innovations on the basis of "Tycoon Kicking the Ball" and "Posthouse Kicking the Ball", making the pot more round and plump. The spout is relaxed again, and the neck is raised again, which is more energetic; The lid is extremely exaggerated, showing a complete hemisphere; The ball of the pot buckle is flattened moderately, so that the tension of the pot cover is fully expanded visually; The nozzle increases the curvature of the curve; When the handle of the kettle stretches gracefully, it will be closed as soon as possible, forming a beautiful space with an "ear" curve. The proportion of each part is coordinated, which is more cumbersome and less regrettable. The overall shape is simple, solid, beautiful and round, and the kettle button, lid and body visually form the trend of three balls overlapping. In a sense, it is in Shouzhen's hands that the "ball pot" has achieved a real "veritable" and perfect aesthetic effect. In the early years of the Republic of China, "Keeping the Chastity and Figuring the Ball" participated in the Panama International Competition in the United States. This work with exquisite workmanship, beautiful shape and rich China cultural heritage won the only "Special Excellence Award" in the competition, adding luster to China's national crafts in the world.
