First of all, the resume contains content.
The application resume includes the following parts:
(1) contact information
Name, address, telephone number and e-mail.
Please fill in your usual address and telephone number.
(2) Educational background
If you have not graduated from the nearest school, please list your major and the expected completion date.
It is not recommended to write a grade point below 3.6 on your resume, at least for most people.
(3) Academic achievements
List any honors, awards and papers (such as university papers) that have been written but not yet officially published.
For honors and awards, please list the year, the name of the award and briefly explain the criteria for awarding the award. Don't think that the school will be familiar with all academic honors and awards-there are hundreds. You must provide them with the necessary information.
When the paper is listed, it includes the year, the title and brief introduction of the paper, and the name of the publication.
(4) Teaching experience
As an undergraduate, if you don't have any teaching experience, don't worry, most people don't. But if there is, I suggest you stand out in individual majors.
(5) Research experience
Any formal research experience you have participated in.
List research institutions, dates, topics and all papers or publications produced.
(6) Professional experience outside academia
Internship or work experience. List the company, position, project name, working date, your responsibilities and a brief description.
Second, the matters needing attention in the resume
1. Resume content is controlled on a piece of A4 paper, and the information is concise and to the point.
Some students may have rich experience in projects or competitions, but in this case, try to keep the experience short. Resume is not a memo or a list, so it is not necessary to list them all. Instead, they should be screened to show their ability and experience.
2. foster strengths and avoid weaknesses.
Resumes don't need to brag too much, but they should also avoid exposing their shortcomings. For example, if your school performance or ranking is not very high, avoid mentioning it or make it inconspicuous; For another example, many students like to grade their software skills. In fact, in this case, everyone will only pay attention to the projects with low scores and will not show your advantages.
3. Define your role in each project.
Avoid blindly piling up your own project experience, because this is just to show the project, not to show your own achievements or skills. Only by clearly marking your role and contribution in the project can you emphasize your ability and growth.
4. Strengthen the pertinence of resume and avoid adding irrelevant information.
Some students are experienced in extracurricular activities or have many specialties, and often use a lot of space to write how many part-time jobs they have done and how many hobbies they have. After all, we are applying for a master's degree, and our resume should be academic or centered around the applied major, so don't add too much irrelevant information.
5. Avoid language errors.
Although architecture has lower language requirements than other disciplines, it does not mean that grammar or spelling mistakes are allowed in resumes. I suggest you check it twice after you finish it.
Third, the format description
1. Usually 1-3 pages is enough. You don't need to add content for all the categories listed above. Only write what suits you, and don't write what doesn't apply.
2. If references are involved, use MLA or APA format.
3. Align the document to the left, leaving 1 inch blank around the document. Keep the font at 10- 12pt to make the document readable. The recommended font is Times New Roman or Ariel.
4. Make sure that at least one person has read your resume, and he/she may remember some highlights of you (but you forgot to write them).
5. Convert to PDF format. Be aware that Word or other formats may be garbled when different systems are opened.
Fourth, the principles of resume writing
Short and pleasant
The first point is the short mentioned above. Many people will ask how much it is appropriate to write a resume. It is suggested here that if the working experience is less than 10 years, it is enough to control it within one page.
the latest
The second principle is up-to-date, that is, experience must include all the experience so far and must have the latest experience. Try not to leave any blanks in your resume, especially when applying for a job. Be sure to let the other person know what you have done in the past six months or a year. This time period is very important.
tailor-made
The third point is tailor-made, that is, the resume should be targeted, and the resume should be revised according to the school and project applied for. Although this requirement is not very good, each school values different abilities. Just like PS, we will tailor the school, and the resume is the same, but the change is not as big as PS.
personal
The last point is personal. There are many resume templates on the Internet for reference now, but they are for reference only. Don't copy mechanically. The final resume should be a work that makes readers feel emotional transmission, not a template and boring resume.
