Hubei province is called "Hubei"

After Qin Shihuang unified the six countries, he began to implement the county system, and set up Hubei County, the king city of Hubei, under the jurisdiction of Nanjun, and the name of "Hubei" began to continue step by step. During the Han Dynasty, Hubei County belonged to Jiangxia County of Jingzhou, and the county belonged to Anlu (now Yunmeng, Hubei).

During the Three Kingdoms period, Hubei County moved to new glory. In 22 1 year, Sun Quan, the monarch of the State of Wu, moved the capital from Gongan to Hubei County and renamed it Wuchang, which means "prospering the country with Wu". At that time, Hubei County, which is now Ezhou, was called Wuchang, and Wuchang City at that time was called Jiangxia.

During the Sui Dynasty, Hubei County was further upgraded. In 589 AD, Emperor Wendi of Sui established Ezhou, governing Jiangxia (now Wuchang District), Wuchang (now Ezhou City), Yongxin (now Yangxin County) and Puyin (now chibi city). Jiangxia is also called Ezhou. This is the first time that the word "E" appeared as the name of a high-level administrative region, and Hubei's abbreviation "E" also derived from it.
