Santa Clara County was named after the Santa Clara Church founded in 1777. The name Santa Clara commemorates the Italian word "Santa Clara of assisi" (English for Assisi). Santa Clara is the Spanish name for this name.
In the early days, the agricultural economy developed by Spanish missionaries was the main theme of Santa Clara County's economic development, which lasted for two centuries.
