What's the difference between Chinese and English resumes?
There are seven main formats for Chinese resumes, and there are some explanations on these websites. Let me tell you something.

The first format is a tabular resume. This kind of resume is characterized by diverse materials and easy reading, which is suitable for college graduates and people without much work experience. At present, the resume mode of recruitment platform is basically tabular format. Taking college students as an example, the table can list academic qualifications, internship experience, courses and so on.

The second is semi-prose. This resume takes into account the advantages of articles and tables, each with its own strengths. This format uses less data table design, but uses several long data records. The number of forms and the length of written records can be adjusted according to your advantage. The amount of detailed information you introduce in your resume varies with your experience. Older and experienced candidates may find semi-prose resume more advantageous, because detailed information takes up more space than highly tabular information, and too many details will affect the purpose of resume.

The third format is a brochure resume. Brochure resume is a multi-page and half-article resume in loose-leaf format. This resume can have four, eight or even twelve pages. It has two main advantages: first, it provides a convenient tool to express two or more pages of information; Second, the cover of the brochure resume contains a separately printed and specially designed cover letter. However, the brochure-style resume also has some noteworthy shortcomings, which require a lot of specialized skills to write and design. Professional resume writers prefer this format because it can impress candidates and help them charge fees.

The fourth format is a summary resume. Abbreviation is a kind of abstract, which is always extracted after completing a long resume. An experienced job seeker should first write a complete resume-for example, two or three pages-to summarize his qualifications, and then he can extract the main points of his qualifications from the complete resume. This summary or abridged resume becomes the basic resume of his general contact, and the detailed resume is only submitted when required by the employer.

The fifth is the resume arranged in chronological order. Some resumes emphasize time by arranging information in chronological order and highlighting dates. Time sequence is usually contrary to the habit of China people, that is, starting from the latest time and pushing forward. For example, under the column of work experience, the resumes arranged in chronological order start from the last job, then the last job of this latest job, and finally the last job. Under the column of education, the resumes of workers arranged in chronological order are the same, in reverse order. A chronological resume can be a complete tabular resume, a semi-prose resume or a creative resume. This kind of resume has a great advantage-future employers prefer it. But this order is not necessarily beneficial to the candidate, especially when his recent job is not the most boring.

The sixth format is functional resume. Some resumes only emphasize the type of work (function), without any special time order. The main advantage of functional resume is to highlight actual achievements. Its disadvantage is that future employers will not rule out their own time series. If strict chronological order is not good for you, you can use a functional resume. If your career progress has improved, and the job you are looking for is the same as your recent job, you can express it in chronological order.

The seventh format is creative resume. Job seekers in creative fields such as art, advertising and publicity often break the standard resume format when preparing resumes. When the creative resume is sent to other creative people, it is beneficial. It proves the applicant's creativity and provides an example of creative imagination. A creative resume must use imagination, but it must also provide the reader with what he or she needs. Creative resumes can only be used in creative industries, and generally avoid using creative resumes in banking, commerce, transportation and manufacturing.

There are four formats for English resumes.

1, Chinese style. Resumes of China people usually include political views, personality, height and weight. If you submit your resume in both Chinese and English, it is recommended that you don't write political features in Chinese, because if you work in a foreign company, the less political background, the better, at least there is no need for foreigners to know. Personality is a subjective thing, and experienced recruiters will never believe anyone's own personality, because it is not a hard thing, unlike education and skills. If some people think that the company wants to recruit a more active person, they will write cheerful personality on their resumes. Some people really believe that they are cheerful, and some people think that writing cheerful is better, but it is not necessary. Height and weight, when applying for a foreign-funded enterprise, can not be written, because it belongs to special privacy content, and does not seem to understand foreign culture.

2. Hong Kong style. Resume writing skills books published in Hong Kong require writing age and marital status, and job seekers are also required to write salary status and expected salary in newspaper advertisements. These are all privacy issues, but American resumes do not require such information.

3. British style. It's close to Hong Kong style, but the personal information is not as much as Hong Kong style. It's long but not detailed, so I won't comment too much here.

4. American style. It is quite popular in large international companies, and one page is our key reference style. There are also more than a dozen resume writing formats in the United States, and some books have published hundreds of samples, but this style we introduced is quite popular in large American companies, such as investment banks, international consulting companies, industrial companies, manufacturing companies and marketing companies on Wall Street. At the same time, it also refers to the resume samples of Harvard Business School, Wharton Business School and Columbia Business School. The style is similar, and Harvard Business School is the main one here.

Miss Li: Let's compare the differences between foreign English resumes and domestic English resumes.

Many customers use English resumes downloaded from foreign websites as reference templates to write their own English resumes for applying for foreign-funded enterprises in China. Because there are many such customers and the questions are concentrated, we will answer this question specifically.

Compared with domestic English resumes, foreign English resumes have different backgrounds of authors and readers, so there are many places that need to be improved according to the national conditions.

First of all, foreign English resumes generally try not to write personal privacy information such as gender, age and race, because from the perspective of legal helpers, such information is suspected of employment discrimination. Once the employer is accused of violating the laws and regulations such as gender discrimination, age discrimination or racial discrimination in recruitment, it will pay huge compensation, because foreigners believe that whether the applicant meets the requirements of the recruitment position depends on the professional background and professional skill level of the applicant, not the above information. However, for foreign companies in China, you should honestly add the above information, including your domicile, to your English resume. We don't think this is discrimination.

Secondly, foreign English resumes generally only write responsibilities, not achievements, which is essentially different from domestic English resumes. If you only write your responsibilities on your English resume, there will be thousands of people. For example, if everyone in a company is an accountant, then the accounting responsibilities of each company are basically the same, but the performance of each accountant is different. This is the focus of your resume and the topic of conversation during the interview, so be sure to add your achievements to your English resume in China.

Thirdly, if job seekers can really understand the main differences between foreign English resumes and domestic English resumes, they can do it themselves. First of all, they can find an English resume with the same position from the English resume service website abroad, and then write their own English resume according to the above instructions.
