Part Four: Career and Commerce (Part Two)

In the early days of reform and opening up, many people in China gave up their jobs to go into business, but few people gave up their departmental leadership positions to go into business, especially those like Chen Wei who gave up their leadership positions just to change their working environment instead of going into business.

Chen Wei defined his behavior as "going into the lake" rather than "going into the sea". However, whether it is "going to the sea" or "going to the lake", whether it is passive or active, Chen Wei resolutely gave up his career of dedicating the best youth to it. After all, Chen Wei is the first person in Jiujiang to voluntarily resign from the department-level leadership position. In order to reduce unnecessary disputes, he chose circuitous tactics. First, I was seconded to Nanchang to work in the name of the Provincial Tourism Bureau. Then, he made a plan to stay in the provincial tourism bureau for more than a month, and then went south to Guangzhou to work in the Guangzhou office of Xinhua News Agency Hong Kong Branch.

Guangdong has a spiritual endowment of being the first and pioneering. In the early 1980s, Guangdong, as the pioneer province of reform and opening-up, became the forefront of China's reform and opening-up, and was also the first place to introduce foreign capital, which was pregnant with opportunities and dreams. At that time, there was a saying in the society: "East, west, north and south, rich in Guangdong." Going south to Guangdong is the first choice for people in inland provinces to seek to change their destiny. In Guangdong, east and west, closed and open, urban and rural areas, urban people and migrant workers intertwined collision. At that time, Guangzhou was the first stop for many migrants. As the southern gate of China, Guangdong is more open than other regions and attracts more and more foreign investors to set up factories. Thousands of migrant workers generally flock to Guangdong to work, especially around the Spring Festival, Guangzhou Railway Station is packed with people. At that time, foreign companies investing in Guangdong were mostly labor-intensive industries such as electronics, clothing, shoes and toys, and assembly lines, so thousands or even tens of thousands of enterprises with workers were everywhere.

Once, Chen Wei went to a foreign company in Shenzhen to handle affairs, and happened to see a shocking scene when the workers got off work. At the peak of the factory with 10,000 people, people at the gate poured out like the tide that opened the gate, and the friction of footsteps could be clearly heard hundreds of meters away. If you try to walk backwards and cross the team at this time, it is not only impossible, but I am afraid there will be a stampede accident. Most of the tens of millions of laborers working in Guangzhou and Shenzhen at that time came from populous provinces such as Sichuan, Hubei, Hunan, Henan and Jiangxi. At the beginning of reform and opening up, the pioneers in the village brought a large number of rural laborers to the economically developed Pearl River Delta. At that time, a large number of migrant workers and women workers came to Guangdong to survive. Because they lack knowledge and can't do technical work, they can only do the most basic work, which is also the most tiring work. They are like a life-conscious machine on the production line, working overtime for many years, with little rest time and entertainment activities, and getting the most basic labor remuneration with their youth and sweat. While Chen Wei is thankful for them, he is more sad for them. This also laid a seed for Chen Wei to run a school in the future and took root at the right time.

Dongfeng Man Chun. In the spring of 1992, the vast land of Jiangxi seems to come very early. After the Spring Festival in previous years, the north wind blowing from the Yangtze River will still be chilly, but this year Jiujiang is full of spring breeze, the clear water is singing, and the peach blossoms along the coast seem to be in bud in the warm wind. That is, in this year's Spring Festival, Deng Xiaoping, the chief architect of China's reform and opening up, set off from Beijing and went all the way south, starting the historic "Xiaoping's Southern Tour" and delivered an important speech. Deng Xiaoping's southern tour speech once again activated the national enthusiasm for reform and opening up, and pushed the great ship of reform and opening up in China to sail in an all-round way. The east wind of reform and opening up from 65438 to 0992 also activated the upsurge of reform and opening up in Jiujiang. Decision makers in Jiujiang have accelerated the pace of reform and opening up. In this year, Jiujiang Economic and Technological Development Zone was established, and the first International Dragon Boat Festival was successfully held, with dragon boat athletes from more than 10 countries participating, so as to comprehensively increase investment attraction and actively expand Jiujiang's influence. When Chen Wei, who came home for the New Year, visited Zhao Rensheng, secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission of Jiujiang City, Zhao asked about Chen Wei's work in Guangzhou and hoped that Chen Wei could return to work in Jiujiang. He was also given the task of introducing several foreign-funded projects. Secretary Zhao was Chen Wei's old leader when he worked in Hukou County Committee. He was kind to him in those years. Since Secretary Zhao made this request face to face, Chen Wei naturally refused. He doesn't intend to stay in Guangzhou for long, he will come back sooner or later. Therefore, Chen Wei not only agreed to Secretary Zhao's request on the spot, but also successfully completed the task assigned by the secretary.

This summer, Chen Wei brought back five foreign-funded projects and ended his nearly three-year trip to Guangzhou. Among several projects introduced to Jiujiang, Lu Cang is a real estate investor in Hong Kong and a good personal friend with Chen Wei. Lu Cang invested US$ 1 million to set up Jincheng Real Estate Development Co., Ltd., the first Sino-foreign joint venture real estate enterprise in Jiujiang. As a foreign manager, Chen Wei is in charge of an old city reconstruction project in Jiujiang. Shortly after the start of the project, due to the influence of Soros, a financial giant who successfully shorted the pound in 1992, when a serious financial crisis occurred in European countries such as Britain, Lu Cang's investment in Britain was not spared, resulting in the break of his capital chain, and he had to propose some capital to Jiujiang Real Estate Company and no longer participate in the development of Jiujiang Real Estate Project. The sudden withdrawal of land warehouse has put Jincheng Real Estate Company in a passive position of dilemma. At that time, Jiujiang real estate company had no funds, so it was difficult to find company investment for the time being. Most importantly, the project has started running, the old houses have been demolished and the foundation of the new building has been laid. If the project is shelved in this way, the life of the demolished citizens will be greatly affected, and if it is not solved well, it will lead to mass incidents. On behalf of foreign investors, Chen Wei coordinated the solution with Chinese Jiujiang Real Estate Company for many times, but there was no result. Lu Cang, eager to withdraw funds, suggested that Chen Wei take over the company next. In fact, Chen Wei also has this idea, because he doesn't want to see the foreign companies he introduced and the projects he is responsible for end like this, but he is a public official and can't run his own company. If it drags on for a long time, the government will not care so much. It just wants to complete the old city reconstruction project as soon as possible. As for who invests, who will do it, including Chen Wei.

Originally, this project has been run by Chen Wei as a foreign businessman. If he develops this project as an investor, the result will be the same. Besides, it is far better to let Chen Wei stay in the office than to let him finish this project. In this way, Chen Wei changed from a foreign agent of Jincheng Real Estate Development Co., Ltd. to the boss of the company. In order to avoid unnecessary troubles, Chen Wei asked his wife Fang Jurong to be a man and registered the first private real estate company in Jiujiang. He is confident to do a good job in this renovation project and this real estate company. Only Chen Wei's management mode is different from others. After he has delivered all the resettlement houses, he will come back to develop commercial housing. This will not only increase the company's financial pressure, but also miss market opportunities and reduce the company's profits. This is related to Chen Wei's belief in taking over the company at that time. He thinks that running a business must first have a sense of social responsibility, and making money is not the most important thing. He did this in the hope that this old city reconstruction project can bring inspiration to government departments and other real estate enterprises. Chen Wei, who does not aim at making money, has been very successful in running a real estate company for several years. Although he didn't make much cash, when he decided to invest in running a school, his company had tens of millions of facade assets. In fact, after retiring from a traditional job, you can have two lifestyles. One is to spend my old age slowly, and the other is to work and live like a young man. Chen Wei obviously doesn't want to end it. For him, the passionate movement of life has just played. Because Chen Wei is not a disciplined person by nature, he doesn't want to live like others by nature.

Chen Wei devoted himself to the education industry without hesitation, but he was also worried. Running a school this time can be said to be the most important choice in his life. His goal is not very clear. What will the school look like in the future? He can't say for sure whether he will stick to it as he does now. Although he chose to run a school with a charitable mind, this choice came more from his ideals and passion. Perhaps, the result he will face in the future is success or failure. After all, whether it is for people or things, the future can never be easily grasped.
