Male, Han nationality,/kloc-0, born in September, 1927, Zhenjiang, Jiangsu, member of the NLD, party member of the Communist Party of China,/kloc-0, joined the work in 1950, graduated from the Department of Mathematics of Tsinghua University with a university degree, and is a professor.

Studied at Shanghai Datong University 1944 to 1947. 1948 to 1950 studied in the Department of Mathematics of Tsinghua University. 1950- 1952, teaching assistant, Department of Mathematics, Tsinghua University. 1952- 1984, assistant, lecturer, professor, deputy director and director of the department of mathematical mechanics in Peking University. 1984 to 1988 president and professor of Peking University. From 1988 to 1989, Vice Chairman of NLD Central Committee, President Peking University, Professor. 1989 to 1996 NLD, Vice Chairman of the Central Committee, Member of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee, Vice President of China Education Association for International Exchange, Executive Vice President of European and American Alumni Association, and Deputy Head of Mathematics Evaluation Group of National Natural Science Foundation of China. 1996 turn1998 chairman of the NLD Central Committee. From 65438 to 0998, he served as Vice Chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee (NPCSC), Chairman of NLD Central Committee and President of the Council of European and American Alumni Association. In March 2003, at the first meeting of the Tenth National People's Congress, he was elected as the vice chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee (NPCSC).

Member of the Seventh CPPCC, Standing Committee of the Eighth CPPCC, and Executive Deputy Director of the Education and Culture Committee of the CPPCC. Vice Chairman of the Ninth the National People's Congress Standing Committee (NPCSC).
