Yang Li's father Duan Wei: Yang Li was born in a scholarly family. During the Republic of China, my father Duan Wei was selected by the government to study at Yale University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology for a master's degree, and went to Europe, France, Britain, Germany and Tokyo for further study. He can speak five languages: Chinese, English, French, German and Japanese. After studying abroad for ten years, he served as acting director of Yunnan Yunnan-Vietnam Railway Bureau after returning to China. During the period of War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression 1937, he served as the chief engineer of repairing the Yunnan-Myanmar Highway and made outstanding contributions to War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression. He was awarded a gold medal by the Yunnan government.
