The Yangtze River flows eastward, and the waves wash away heroes.

Whether it is right and wrong or failure, it is empty now and has disappeared with the passage of time. Castle Peak still exists, the sun still rises and the sunset still sets.

The white-haired hermit by the river has long been used to the changes of time.

I met an old friend and had a drink. How many things in the past and how many years have been put into the conversation.

From Linjiang Fairy, Rolling East of the Yangtze River

Ming Dynasty: Yang Shen

Translation:

As the Yangtze River rolls eastward, many heroes disappear like stormy waves.

Whether it is right or wrong, or success or failure (the success of ancient and modern heroes), it is nothing until now, and it has disappeared with the passage of time. Green hills (mountains and rivers) still exist, and the sun still rises and sets.

The white-haired hermit by the river has long been used to the change of time.

It's rare to see old friends. Have a good drink. A lot of things through the ages have been put into the joke.

Creative background:

15 1 1 year (the sixth year of Zheng De in Ming Dynasty), Yang Shen won the first place in palace examination. 1524, Yang Shengan was exiled to Yunnan for offending Sejong Zhu Houzong. He often travels around and observes people's customs. Everywhere I went, I talked with local literati and left many poems describing Yunnan. This word is one of them.

The first two sentences of the poem remind people of Du Fu's "Leaves fall like a waterfall, but I think the long river is always rolling forward" and Su Shi's "The river whose romantic figures are gone forever", using the river that is gone forever as a metaphor for the historical process, and using the back waves to push the front waves as a metaphor for the great achievements of heroes. However, all this will eventually be taken away by the long river of history.

"Success or failure is empty" is a summary of the above two historical phenomena, from which we can also see the author's broad-minded and detached outlook on life. "The green hills are still there, and the sunset is red." Castle peak and sunset symbolize the eternity of nature and the universe. Although the ups and downs of the past dynasties have been repeated, neither the castle peak nor the sunset will change with it, and a sense of sadness that life is fleeting quietly arises.
