He studied martial arts for eight years (1869) and joined the "Dongzi 3rd Battalion" as a groom. 17 years old, became famous in the army and rose to ten levels. In the eleventh year of Tongzhi (1872), Dong Jun returned to suppress Lanzhou and Sol Zhang, fought bravely, took the lead, killed more than a dozen enemies at a time, and was promoted to a small general. In the second year of Guangxu (1876), he followed the "Dong Zi 3rd Battalion" in the western expedition to Xinjiang, and was promoted to deputy general, and later to guerrilla general of Dihua (now Urumqi). In the 23rd year of Guangxu (1897), he was ordered to join forces with Dong Fuxiang Ganjun in Beijing as Wu Weijun, stationed in Shanhaiguan and northwest Shanxi. In July of the 26th year of Guangxu (1900), Eight-Nation Alliance captured Beijing, and Zhang Hua escorted Cixi to the Western Seas in Dong Fuxiang. After Dong Fuxiang was dismissed, Zhang Hua also returned to his hometown. After that, the imperial court gave him a three-pin Hualing top hat, and gave his father Zhong Zhang a five-pin Yin Shu and his mother Mu Shide Hualing. In September of the fifth year of the Republic of China (19 16), Zhang Hua was captured by bandits and burned alive.
