Enshi Vocational and Technical College was approved by the Hubei Provincial People's Government in August 2000, and was formed by the merger of the former Enshi Education College, Enshi Finance School, Enshi Industrial School, Enshi Agricultural School, Enshi Forestry School and Enshi Supply and Marketing School. Its school-running history can be traced back to 1937. It is the predecessor of Enshi Agricultural School, the former senior agricultural vocational school affiliated to Hubei Agricultural College, and moved to Enshi in the west. It has a history of 72 years. In August 2005, the former Enshi Electromechanical Engineering School was merged into the college, and in September 2009, the former Enshi National Sports School was merged into the college.

The college is located in Enshi City, Hubei Province, the "selenium capital of the world". It is the only higher vocational college in the minority areas of Hubei Province, the construction unit of Hubei Province, the executive director of the professional committee of minority vocational education of China Vocational Education Association, the president school of the inter-school cooperation association of higher vocational colleges in the border areas of Hunan, Hubei, Chongqing, Sichuan and Guizhou, the Hubei learning base for the development of distance learning network in western China, the Hubei special operation training base and the Hubei rural labor force transfer and employment training base.
