Harbin, Heilongjiang, and later moved to Beiping and Shanghai. He studied at Huaguang Theatre Academy in his early years and mainly engaged in drama activities after graduation. He has performed such plays as Metamorphosis, Human Drama, Begonia and Nightclub. In Shanghai Dialect Drama Club, Hard Troupe and Shanghai Art Troupe. 1942, he made a film Gone with the Wind, and started his film career after the war. In Wenhua, CLP No.2 Factory, Qi Ming and other places, he starred in films such as Long Live My Wife, Nightclub, Cockcrow and Watch the Sky Early, and Streets and Alleys, and became an influential minority actor at that time. After 1949, he acted as the main actor in films such as Cuigang Red Flag and Red Sun.
