At the age of 3, my grandfather had just passed away, and the whole family was immersed in grief. Ni Sichong, commander-in-chief of Anhui Province, came to arrest his father with a group of officers and men. At that time, Chen Duxiu was not at home, and the officers and men didn't catch anyone. They shouted in the yard: "Search, take Chen Duxiu's son away." Hearing this, my brother Yannian and Qiao Nian jumped off the wall and ran away.

Chen Songnian, who was still young at that time, accidentally fell into the neighbor's bathtub while climbing over the wall. Neighbor women heard the noise and quickly came out of the house. Seeing this, they used their quick wits, stripped him naked and pretended to start bathing him. The officers and men broke into the neighbor's house and asked, "Have you seen Chen's son?"

The neighbor quickly said, "No, no, I'm taking a bath for my son." The officers and men roared off, but Chen Songnian just escaped.

Chen Songnian's brothers, Chen Yannian and Chen Qiaonian, went to Shanghai and Peking to study for the revolutionary ideal, and also went to France to study. Unlike his brothers, Chen Songnian can study abroad. Although he is young and eager to learn, his grades are excellent. But considering that his father and brother have been away for many years, he is the only male in the family, and his grandmother, mother and sister depend on him, so he dropped out of school before graduation.

Chen Songnian, 16 years old, has become the pillar of the family, chopping wood, farming and carrying water ... all the heavy work in the family falls on his shoulders, and the hand used to hold a pen and write has become as dry and rough as the old bark, but he has no complaints and no plum blossoms. Instead, I often comfort my mother who cries because she misses her father too much.

1920, Chen Duxiu founded China * * *, as the highest * * * in China, which naturally became a thorn in the side of Beiyang warlords and foreign invaders. Chen Duxiu was arrested five times for the revolution and never gave in to the enemy. This indomitable spirit deeply influenced the eldest son Chen Yannian and the second son Chen Qiaonian.

After returning from studying in France, Chen Yannian saved the country like his father and took part in the revolution. Unfortunately, he was arrested and imprisoned during the "April 12th" coup in 1927, and was tortured by the enemy in prison without revealing a word. After suffering inhuman torture, the enemy still had no choice but to execute him secretly at the age of 29.

When the bad news of Chen Yannian came, my grandmother, mother and sisters at home wept bitterly. My mother told 17-year-old Chen Songnian and her sister to go to Shanghai to take care of my eldest brother's funeral.

As a result, when they arrived in Shanghai, the Kuomintang didn't allow them to accept the body at all, and even didn't let them have a look at it. Song Nian and his sister suffered the loss of their loved ones, so they had to light candles and burn some incense paper where Chen Yannian died, and knelt down and wept bitterly.

Just one year after Chen Yannian's sacrifice, his second brother Chen Qiaonian was also arrested by the Shanghai Kuomintang reactionaries. At the age of 26, he was beaten by the enemy in prison and his legs were mutilated, but he always gritted his teeth and refused to give in, and finally died heroically.

This time, Song Nian and his sister went to collect the body.

However, the attitude of the Kuomintang is as shameless as before, and they are still not allowed to accept the body or even let them have a look.

Chen Songnian pleaded, even if the officers and men put a gun to his head, they wouldn't flinch. When the officers and men saw that he didn't want to leave, they had to wave their hands impatiently: "Let's go, let's go, take a look and get out of here."

Chen Songnian cried and knelt in front of the body of his second brother Chen Qiaonian, only to see that the wound on the body was deeply visible. After seeing this horror, Chen Songnian's hand trembled and put his clothes on the bloody body of his second brother.

Sister Yu Ying saw her brother's tragic death, and her spirit was greatly stimulated. She died of a blood breakdown shortly after returning to her hometown at the age of 28.

The four children of the Chen family are only 17 years old at this time.

At a young age, he shouldered all the family burdens. He must endure grief to take care of the affairs of his brothers and sisters and comfort his grieving mother. No one knows how much pain he has to bear. Since then, bad luck has accompanied the pine year, and he has not lived a real good life.

1932, Chen Duxiu was imprisoned again by the Kuomintang for making inappropriate remarks.

Mother showed Chen Songnian around the prison, which was the first time he met his father after he was born.

Because his father left his mother that year, the two brothers have been reluctant to call Chen Duxiu's father when they grow up, and call him "Chen Duxiu" by his first name like strangers.

For Chen Songnian, the father is always the father.

Seeing his father's ragged clothes, unshaven beard and other scars, he was heartbroken and tears flowed down unconsciously.

Chen Duxiu saw it and shouted, "Nothing, what are you crying about!"

From then on, he dared not cry in front of his father.

After the death of my brother and sister, my mother was ill because of excessive grief and died soon. In just three years, Chen Songnian personally took care of the affairs of four relatives.

When all relatives died, Chen Songnian and his father became a comfort to each other. As long as he had time, Chen Songnian would rush to Shanghai from Anqing to bring some food and drinks to his father in prison until 1938, when the Japanese came to Anqing.

At this time, 28-year-old Chen Songnian made great efforts to keep the Chen family's only ancestral property. He found several boats and wanted to move all his valuable furniture to the countryside. What is hateful is that these things were discovered by the Japanese, and the property in the Chen family shrine was looted, leaving only some worthless broken furniture.

But at this time, there was good news. My father was finally released from prison and was preparing to cross Sichuan from Wuhan.

After learning the news, Chen Songnian was very excited. She immediately rushed to Wuhan with her one-year-old daughter and grandmother. Chen Duxiu was very excited when he heard that his son was coming. He never wrote a letter from home. He couldn't wait to write a letter:

"When changing boats in Yichang, I will dock for you. As long as you have a boat, you don't have to wait for me in Yichang ... When you get off the boat and go ashore in Chongqing, you have to take a sedan chair, so don't save this tip. ...

Chen Duxiu doesn't laugh at ordinary times, but in this letter, he rarely shows kindness to the younger generation.

You know, when Chen Yannian and Chen Qiaonian went to Shanghai, they didn't stay with their father at all. They work outside during the day to earn living expenses and sleep on the floor of the new youth distribution hall at night. It seems that they are children without fathers. Stepmother Gao Junman can't stand it anymore. She insisted that Chen Duxiu call her two sons home, but Chen Duxiu said categorically: "Young people should make their own decisions in the future!"

Times have changed, and his second son passed away. Perhaps Chen Duxiu saw the shadow of his second son in Songnian, or perhaps his age made people warm. Judging from the words "10 million", "must" and "10 million", they all showed his concern for his family during that time.

It was also because of Chen Songnian that Chen Duxiu had something to rely on in his later years.

Although Chen Songnian lived in poverty and had children to support, he still squeezed money from his meager teaching salary to support his father and stepmother Pan Xiaolan.

After Chen Duxiu was released from prison, the Kuomintang sent people to find him many times, asking him to reorganize a new party with 65,438+10,000 yuan, even though he was too poor to make a living by pawning his coat. But Chen Duxiu still shouted to Chiang Kai-shek in front of these people: "... kill my two sons, and I will become sworn to him!" Father is not afraid of the background color of powerful people, which makes Chen Songnian more respected.

Since the children and grandchildren wrapped around their knees, Chen Duxiu has been much happier, and the edges and corners of her body seem to have been smoothed away, leading a rare and peaceful life.

However, something unexpected happened in the sky. 1942, Chen Duxiu was poisoned by eating folk prescription. Before he died, he repeatedly told his son Chen Songnian, "Be sure to take my grandmother's coffin and mine back to my hometown."

The death of his father made Chen Songnian very miserable. What's more, he can't afford his father's coffin because he is poor. Finally, with the help of some local squire friends, he was able to buy a coffin for his father to be buried.

When his father died, China was being ravaged by the Japanese, so Chen Songnian could not immediately send his father's coffin back to his hometown, so he had to be buried in Jiangjin, Sichuan. In order not to cause trouble, only six words were written on the tombstone: the tomb of Mr. Duxiu.

It was not until five years later, that is, two years after the Japanese surrender, that Chen Songnian found the opportunity to move the coffin. He spent a lot of money to hire a boat to transport the coffins of grandma and dad back to Anqing and put them in Yejiachong, the north gate of Anqing.

The reason for choosing this place is that it is adjacent to Duxiu Mountain, and the origin of Chen Duxiu's "Duxiu" name comes from this. Buried here, my father can accompany his favorite Duxiu Mountain day and night; Secondly, father and mother can be buried here to fulfill their mother's last wish.

After the cemetery was selected, how to erect a monument became a problem. After all, when he was dealing with his father's funeral in Jiangjin, reactionaries came to disturb him. If he uses his father's name at this time, in case his old friends visit him, it will bring them an accident, and it is difficult to guarantee that reactionaries will not destroy the cemetery.

After some thinking, Chen Songnian decided not to use his father's name, but to use his father's previous test name "Chen Gansheng", so that outsiders would not know.

With this vigilance, in the years when the reactionaries were arrogant, Chen Duxiu's tomb was preserved.

1947, on the day when his parents were buried together, Chen Songnian talked with his parents for a long time in the cemetery. He talked about his incomplete family since childhood, and later his brothers and sisters died one after another. He was the only one among the originally lively brothers and sisters, living in thoughts and pain every day. Finally, even his mom, dad and grandma left one after another. He was only 37 years old and became an orphan.

In those years, Chen Songnian often came to the cemetery. He came quietly and walked quietly.

Later, children were born one after another, and he became busier and heavier. Although Chen Songnian never had a complete family when he was young, he had deep feelings for his family. In order to let the children study, he and his wife work day and night, lifting soil in the kiln factory during the day, building roads on the railway, and making pocket money by pasting matchboxes at home at night.

Overwork dragged down his wife's health, and in a few years, his wife left him.

Losing his wife in middle age, he held back his grief and moved on.

As a descendant of Chen Duxiu, he insisted that his children should study. He often says to the children, "How can Chen Jiazi be uneducated!"

In order to keep his three daughters and one son from dropping out of school, he gritted his teeth and sold half of his ancestral home. Such a hard day, until 1953, finally got a turn for the better.

This year, Mao Zedong visited Anqing. When talking about the descendants of Chen Duxiu, the staff reported the situation in Chen Songnian.

Knowing that Chen Songnian had been moving bricks in a kiln factory for 30 years, Chairman Mao was deep in thought and told his entourage that as a descendant of martyrs, the state should give some support.

With the special approval of Chairman Mao, the local government gave Chen Songnian 30 yuan a subsidy and arranged for him to work in the local museum of literature and history. The life of the Chen Songnian family has finally settled down, and the life of him and his children has become better.

Because of Chen Songnian's insistence, three daughters and one son have a bright future.
