MicrosoftWord is a word processor application of Microsoft Corporation. It was originally written by RichardBrodie in 1983 for IBM computers running DOS. Subsequent versions can run on AppleMacintosh( 1984), SCOUNIX and MicrosoftWindows( 1989) and become part of MicrosoftOffice. Bravo is a GUI text editor developed for XeroxPARC, in which many concepts and ideas have been introduced into MicrosoftWord. CharlesSimonyi, the founder of Bravo, joined Microsoft at 198 1 after leaving PARC. Simonyi, who developed Bravo with him, hired Brodie, so he left PARC that summer. The first generation of Word developed for MS-DOS computer was released at the end of 1983, but the response was not good, and its sales fell behind rival products such as WordPerfect. Nevertheless, in the Macintosh system, Word won wide acceptance after the release of 1985, especially the second large-scale release of Word 3.01for Macintosh two years later (Word 3.00 was quickly removed from the shelves due to serious bugs). Like other Mac software, WordforMac is a real (what you see is what you get) editor.
