However, it is not only the number of English versions, but also the readability of the existing English versions that restrict the widespread spread of China's operas overseas. China's traditional opera works, especially classical opera works, have extremely rich cultural connotations, including a large number of allusions, involving Chinese religion, thought, philosophy, history, folk customs, classical literature and other aspects of knowledge, many of which are quite challenging for many readers and audiences in contemporary China, not to mention simple text translation that can be understood by overseas readers. Frankly speaking, many projects publicized by China in the past have shortcomings in this respect.
