It is the most systematic and comprehensive exhibition of watercolor paintings in China.

The exhibition includes more than 300 important works of China watercolor paintings in different development periods since 1905.

1864-191kloc-0/In the embryonic period of China watercolor painting, Xu Yongqing (1880- 1953), the first generation watercolor painter in China, was cultivated by foreign missionaries in Tushanwan Art Gallery, which is known as the cradle of western painting. Li Tiefu (1869- 1952), who studied abroad for the first time, exhibited his early watercolor still life "Bottle Flowers", and Li Shutong (1880- 1942) exhibited a landscape painting on one of his postcards. In the growing period of China watercolor painting from 19 1 1 to 1949, a large number of successful watercolor painters emerged, and their works began to show a diversified development trend, reflecting the achievements of China watercolor painting in the growing period. This is the first * * in the history of China watercolor painting development, including:

Most of these painters have passed away, only Mr. Yang Taiyang is still alive, and he will be 100 years old this year. Their works are the result of blending Chinese and western cultures and facing life, and also reflect the unique artistic pursuit of each painter. Today, it still has great reference significance; During the development period of China watercolor painting from 1949 to 1965, all the above painters have made new achievements, and the painters who grew up in the revolutionary war and returned from overseas have injected new vitality into China watercolor painting. Gu Yuan, Yu Shao, Shen Roujian, Wu Guanzhong, Xiao Shufang and other painters all have their own unique works.

1954 "National Watercolor Sketch Exhibition" is a great review of the creative achievements at that time, and the fine works in that exhibition, such as Dai Ze's Berlin World Youth and Students Festival, are also exhibited in this exhibition.

This stage is the second time in the history of watercolor painting in China. More than 50 works are exhibited in this exhibition.

From 1978 to now, it is the reform and prosperity period of China watercolor painting, and it is also the most * * * period in the development history of China watercolor painting. At this stage, the national art exhibition has set up four watercolor exhibition areas, and the national watercolor and pastel art exhibitions have also been held for seven times. New authors are constantly emerging, and their creations are unprecedentedly active. China's watercolor painting got rid of the limitation of "sketch" and "light music", and greatly improved watercolor painting. It expands the functions of watercolor painting, enriches the forms and techniques of watercolor painting, and initially forms the "China Watercolor Painting" style with China's national characteristics, spirit of the times and personal style. This exhibition shows more than 200 works in this period, including works that won gold and silver awards in previous exhibitions, and some new works by old painters, from which we can fully see the latest development panorama of China watercolor painting.

The exhibition also exhibited the works of representative watercolor painters from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, including the works of the late famous watercolor painters Ma Baishui, Li Zefan and De Jin in Taiwan Province, and the works of famous watercolor painters Jiang, Ouyang Naizhan, Liao Wenchang, Taiwan Province, Yang Ensheng and Ji in Hong Kong.

Hundred years of watercolor painting in China

1978- now: the reform and prosperity period of China watercolor painting is also the most * * * period in the development history of China watercolor painting.

At this stage, the national art exhibition has set up a watercolor exhibition area separately for four times, and the national watercolor and pastel exhibitions have also been held for seven times. New authors are constantly emerging and creative activities are unprecedentedly active.

1984 during the sixth national art exhibition, watercolor painting set up an independent exhibition area for the first time.

With the increasing number of authors and unprecedented active creation, many other painters turned to watercolor painting, and their artistic level improved rapidly.

Watercolor reached a new height in the Ninth National Art Exhibition from 65438 to 0999, and won three gold medals together with Chinese painting and oil painting.

At present, at least 27 colleges and universities in China offer watercolor painting majors.

The team of watercolor artists is the largest among all kinds of paintings, with more than 2,000 works sent to the exhibition every time.

China's watercolor painting got rid of the limitation of "sketch" and "light music", greatly enhanced the expressive force of watercolor painting, expanded the functions of watercolor painting, enriched the expression forms and techniques of watercolor painting, and initially formed its own "China watercolor painting" style with China's national characteristics, spirit of the times and personal style, from which we can see the latest development of China watercolor painting in a panoramic way.

debate

Chen Lvsheng, a famous art critic and researcher of China Art Museum, recently pointed out that some works are "more and more complicated in content and more detailed in description", and the characteristics of "water" have been forgotten.

Do you want the feeling of watercolor?

When it comes to watercolor painting, many people will recall the scene of painting with a bucket of water, a box of watercolor pigments and several watercolor pigments in the art class in primary schools.

The famous painter Wu Guanzhong once said, "Watercolor, watercolor, is characterized by' water' and' color'.

Without giving full play to the advantages of water, it is not as expressive as oil painting and pastel painting; If you don't give full play to the characteristics of color, it is not as good as the charm of ink painting.

"It can be seen that water plays a very important role in watercolor painting.

In the preface to the exhibition, "China watercolor painting has basically got rid of the limitation of only sketching and light music or only as a means of learning and collecting materials, which greatly enhanced the expressive force of watercolor painting, expanded the functions of watercolor painting and enriched various forms of watercolor painting". Chen Lvsheng suggested that watercolor painting also needs specific themes and in-depth and meticulous description, and the characteristics of "water" will be unconsciously forgotten by people.

"If the watercolor paintings of construction sites and real life in the 1950s and 1960s still retain the feeling of watercolor, then watercolor paintings with specific themes basically have only some materials and paintings.

In this regard, Zhu Fan, director of the secretariat of the Art Committee of China Artists Association, believes that watercolor painting can be divided into wet painting and dry painting. The so-called dry painting means that the composition of water is relatively small.

The artists participating in this exhibition have different skills. Some people wet the whole paper before painting, many use dry painting, and some combine dry and wet painting.
