North Atlantic Treaty Organization, NATO for short. After World War II, in order to contain the Soviet Union and maintain its dominant position in Europe, the United States and some western European countries formally established the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) on April 4, 1949. Headquartered in Brussels, Belgium.

Organization members:

As of March 2020, NATO has 30 member countries: Belgium, Iceland, Denmark, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Canada, Luxembourg, the United States, Norway, Portugal, Turkey, Spain, Greece, Italy, Britain, Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Romania and Bulgaria. Headquartered in Brussels, Belgium.

On June 29th, 2022, NATO formally invited Finland and Sweden to join NATO. Finland and Sweden applied to join NATO in May. Joining this military organization requires the unanimous consent of 30 NATO members. Turkey previously opposed Finland and Sweden to join the EU unless they met Turkey's security requirements. On the 28th, Turkey changed its position and gave Sweden and Finland a "green light" to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
