Buddha
Tathagata is a respected Sakyamuni in the western paradise, and there is no Amitabha in the south. On the top of the vulture mountain in Tianzhu Lingshan, Hezhou, cows and quilts are cultivated. This man is magical and powerful. As soon as he appeared, he solved the catastrophe in the sky. Later, he used his skills many times to help Wukong break through many difficulties. It can be called the Big Mac in Journey to the West.
The term "tathāgata" is translated from Sanskrit. For example, the word "tathāta" refers to the real situation of all laws (things) and also includes the meaning of "Yathābhūtam". Buddhist scriptures interpret "Tathagata" as "from the way of truth" and "from the truth". Tathagata is a common noun and a synonym for Buddha. The word Buddha is the abbreviation of "Buddha", which is a transliteration of Buddha (if transliteration is used in today's Chinese, it should be "Buda"), and Buddha means "consciousness" or "wisdom". "The word' Buddha' has a long history in India, but Buddhism has added three meanings to it: (1) conscience (knowing the essence of all laws, neither increasing nor decreasing); (2) Isosleep or metasleep (not only conscious, that is, self-awareness, but also equally and universally aware of him, even if others are aware); (3) a sense of roundness or supremacy (consciously feeling that your wisdom and work have reached the highest and most satisfactory state). Such as Sakyamuni Buddha, can be called Sakyamuni Buddha; Amitabha, you can call Amitabha Tathagata.
There are only four main figures in The Journey to the West: the Monkey King, Tang Sanzang, Zhu Bajie and Friar Sand. Their stories run through the book and their images are detailed and comprehensive. Tathagata, who rarely appears, is often ignored because of his few appearances and less ink. After careful consideration, it is not difficult to find that even the highest ruler of this western paradise, the representative of the highest divine power and magical power, and the Buddha who is full of compassion and helps the world and cultivates the truth, goodness and beauty, is actually a monk who pretends to be lofty, likes to show off, tries to protect himself, deceives his superiors and deludes his subordinates, is duplicitous, glib and cheeky, so he is willing to support traitors and force others to do things. Might as well open the The Journey to the West and take a closer look:
Since 47,000 monkeys gathered together, the 72-hole demon king began to rebel, even causing havoc in the heavenly palace, and many sacred immortals could not surrender. The jade emperor had to ask the Tathagata for rescue, which gave the Tathagata a chance to show his talents at the beginning and laid a good foundation for the Tathagata to flaunt himself. After only a few words with the little monkey, he called Monkey Sun a "beast born in the early world", and then he made a bet with the monkey, saying, "If you dare, you can win by doing a somersault in my right hand, and then you don't have to fight hard with swords and soldiers. Please ask the Jade Emperor to live in the Western Heaven and let you have the Heavenly Palace; If you can't clap your hands, you are still a demon. If you grab it several times, you will argue. " Although the family is not busy, the tone of "letting the heavenly palace" is too loud, just like he is the mother of the jade emperor. I just don't know if the jade emperor will feel like a puppet after hearing this. But at this time, the Jade Emperor wanted other people's things, and would not bully Tathagata to show his unhappiness. Monkey Sun lost the bet. Although the monkey didn't believe that he didn't jump out of the palm of Tathagata's hand, Tathagata didn't explain and broke his word. Instead of letting the monkey "return to the lower world to be a demon", he sealed the monkey at the foot of Wuxing Mountain. Five hundred years later, Guanyin went to Chang 'an to look for Buddhist scriptures. When he passed Wuxing Mountain, the crushed monkey was still complaining: "Tathagata lied to me and nailed me to this mountain ..." It can be seen that Tathagata was not a trustworthy person, but cheated Sun with his childlike heart. Although the monkey asked the Jade Emperor to surrender to the Heavenly Palace, it was a crime of subverting the regime and endangering the safety of the Heavenly Palace. It is indeed necessary to clarify his crime and punish him according to law, but Tathagata did not add "trial" and took the initiative to seal the monkey at the foot of Wuxing Mountain, completely imposing personal consciousness on "heaven" and ignoring the jade emperor and god.
After receiving the monkey, the Jade Emperor gave a banquet to thank him, "Please clear the name of this meeting". As soon as the Tathagata opened his mouth, it was named "An Tian Conference". The tone of the word "An Tian" is beyond measure. At the beginning, "a hundred thousand heavenly soldiers filled the sky" could not contain monkeys, but it was solved by the Tathagata. If the subject is clearly added before the word "An Tian", it will not be clearer who is responsible for this "An Tian" and who is responsible for it. No wonder Tang Priest was called "Sun Ying" and "Earth Spirit" when he was killed, not all because Tathagata got along well between heaven and earth and had a big face, which laid a good foundation here. Back at Leidayin Temple, the Tathagata described in detail how monkeys were "guilty" with "three thousand buddhas, five hundred arhats, eight donkey kong and four great bodhisattvas", how gods, Jiro and Lao Jun "couldn't hurt" monkeys, and how monkeys "swaggered". Between words, it is simply deliberately showing off and getting carried away. Fortunately, the monkey has been crushed and the world is at peace.
Five hundred years later, on a whim, the Tathagata summed up the "good and evil of all beings" in the Orchid Club, claiming that there was the Sanzang True Sutra, and then invited the Guanyin Venerable to go to the East Land to find the Buddhist Sutra "Seeking Truth", and indicated with five treasures that he would put on his cassock and "avoid falling into reincarnation". He also said that Zhang Xi, who held the nine precepts, was "not poisoned", but it brought disaster to Tang Priest, which was pure deception. Moreover, gold tightly forbids three hoops, but it is only to subdue the "unstoppable" devil and force people to convert to Buddhism. It's just wishful robber logic, claiming to "persuade him to study hard", regardless of whether Monkey, Xiong Bi and Hong Haier value "freedom" more. At this point, the Tathagata left the scene after his first appearance, and in less than two stories before and after, he had a preliminary impression of what kind of "Buddha" the Tathagata was.
When the Tathagata was mentioned again, it was already in Huang Fengguai, Huang Fengling. Although this Huang Fengguai was ruled by Tathagata Ji Ling, he often "strictly ordered" his monsters to patrol the mountains and "take a few ordinary people to make wine" (as the pioneer of the Twenty Tigers said). If he didn't want to harm the Tang Priest, it is estimated that no matter how many "injuries and sins" there are, Ji Ling wouldn't care about him. This alone is not Tathagata's appeasement, but it can also be regarded as his disadvantage or even "harm" to Ji Ling's administration. When he arrived in the infinite country, because the infinite king didn't know the incarnation of Manjushri, he was "embarrassed in a few words" and immersed Manjushri in the river for three days and three nights. In order to vent his anger on Manjusri, the Tathagata sent Manjusri's green lion to the well to soak for three years. He is really petty and vengeful, and he is good at wooing the "Buddha" at the lower level. Fortunately, this green lion "has never hurt anyone", and it is still clear about love and hate.
When the Tathagata came out of the mountain for the second time, it was the time when the monkeys fought against the green cattle in Jindoushan. However, it's time for the Tathagata to go to the Western Heaven and cast the devil. The Monkey King, please ask the Tathagata to look at the origin of the green cow with his eyes. Tathagata "learned from a distance", but said to Monkey Sun, "Although I know monsters, I can't tell you. Your monkey's mouth is open. He won't fight with you when I preach him. He will definitely quarrel with Lingshan, which is a disaster for me. " Obviously, he is a wise man to protect himself, and he has acquired the essence of the golden mean. When eighteen grains of emery trapped the green cow, it was when the dragon and tiger fell that the monkey knew the Buddha and told the hero of the green cow, so that what the monkey heard was: "Damn it! Damn it. Tathagata also earns my money! You should have told me at that time, but I couldn't help teaching you to travel! " Although I expressed my indignation at the Tathagata, I didn't see the Tathagata's way of life to preserve our sanity. The result is, of course, everyone is happy, and everyone is "good! All right! Very good. "
Soon after, the True and False Great Sage quarreled with Lingshan, and the Tathagata had another chance to show off. When many people didn't know whether it was true or not, he smiled and said, "You are so powerful that you can only read about Sundays, but you can't know everything about Sundays, and you can't widely know the types of Sundays." After such a suspense, I took pains to elaborate on what kind of hybrid the five immortals, five insects and four monkeys of Sunday species are, so as to tell the root of the fake Wukong. It's really anxious to wait, but he is showing off leisurely there.
At the Flame Mountain again, Sun Monkey had a fight with the cow. Before seeing the cow, the Monkey King killed his son (Hong Haier), humiliated his wife (rogue) and bullied his concubine (jade-faced fox), then stole his golden beast and cheated the banana fan. This monkey is really cruel. The Monkey King couldn't subdue Niu Wangmo, so he came to the secret magic rock of Wutai Mountain and threw magic at King Kong. The cool cave in Emei Mountain is more powerful than King Kong, the shaman Omega Supreme of Xu Mi Molar Cliff and Jinxialing of Kunlun Mountain. This formation is really a way to bully people. Just because his apprentice (Tang Priest) went to the Western Heaven to learn Buddhist scriptures, others should give him unconditional help. If you don't help, you will commit crimes against the sky, that is, you will not clean up. Isn't this the robber theory?
Arriving at the Lion Camel Cave in Lion Camel Ridge, Manjusri Green Haired Lion was the king of infinity for three years, and then took the top spot in Lion Camel Ridge for seven years. If we were in the infinite country, it was "I don't know how many creatures were hurt in that box" (Tathagata). Such an arrogant slave is nothing more than having a manjusri bodhisattva as a backer, even if it is endless sin. Pu Xian's white elephant is a demon. If you don't know the truth, you won't be like this. Dapeng Carving is Tathagata's uncle, so Tathagata can only go down to Lingshan to subdue the demon once. Because Dapeng was unhappy, Tathagata was "trapped with great magic" and promised that "I am in charge of four continents, and countless sentient beings look forward to it. I will teach him to sacrifice your mouth first", which is really a trick of Xiao En Xiaohui, and it is not convincing.
When the Tang Priest and his party arrived in the Western Heaven, the Tathagata ordered Arnold and Gayeso to pass on the scriptures, but Arnold and Gayeso failed to do so, and there were no words to pass on the scriptures. Monkey Sun turned to ask questions, and Tathagata even quoted scriptures and said, "Scriptures cannot be passed on lightly, and cannot be taken empty. You come down from the mountain, go to the monks at that time, and read the scriptures with Elder Zhao in Swasti. It seems that this Tathagata not only asks for bribes from his subordinates, but also "the family is safe and the dead are detached" to the rich. Ignoring people without gold and ghosts without silver, and claiming to cultivate the Buddha of truth, goodness and beauty and save the world is simply nonsense. I just don't know if the monks have followed the Buddha now. In addition, he also argued: "The white paper is true without words, but it is not bad. "He doesn't even know the truth that silence is truth. Saying so many words is purely self-defeating. But later, although Arnold and Kaya were "wrinkled with shame", they still asked for personnel, so Sanzang Wu Laonai had to present a Zijin alms bowl to preach the scriptures. It's really good for Tathagata to train and spoil. What about Tang Sanzang's mentoring?
When Tang Sanzang and his disciples sent the scriptures to the east and returned them to the west, and the Tathagata was ordained for them, Pig Bajie became a Buddha for Tang Sanzang and the Monkey King, but he was appointed as an altar messenger, complaining bitterly. The Tathagata once again coaxed Bajie with the enjoyment of delicious food, saying, "Because you have a strong mouth and a thick body, you are generous in eating intestines. Covering four continents, many people pay tribute to my teaching. This is a useful level to teach you to clean the altar in all Buddhist affairs. How bad! " It's Sean Xiaohui's deception trick again, which has been sacrificed by Dapeng in front. Doesn't he know that the Tang Priest and his disciples "took off their earthly fetuses and didn't think about worldly food" (the ninety-ninth time), and it was purely a gimmick to give Pig Bajie a clean altar messenger, and they could only deceive the honest Pig Bajie.
Fortunately, the story ends with chanting Buddha's name, which means that the Tathagata has hymns and fig leaf. People don't care too much. In the words of Tathagata, it is "Amitabha"!
The Characters in The Journey to the West
Tathagata Buddha: The magic power is boundless. His eight donkey kong, eighteen arhats and various bodhisattvas are ever-changing. The Monkey King is very brave and somersaults, but he can't turn over the palm of the Tathagata. Tathagata originally meant to come in the form of true Tathagata, that is to say, truly, he was the founder of Buddhism. His family name is Sakyamuni, which means sage. Together, they are called Sakyamuni saints. He was originally a prince of northern ancient India. Because he was dissatisfied with Brahmanism at that time, he became a monk and founded Buddhism.
