Is the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics really ice?
The ice cubes at the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics are not real ice.

At the opening ceremony of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, a milky waterfall fell from the sky and condensed into ice. Nearly three layers of ice rose steadily, and 24 lasers reviewed the previous Winter Olympics and finally stayed in Beijing. Then six ice hockey players quickly hit and "carved" the broken ice with lasers, and finally an ice five rings appeared.

The ice in this link is not a piece of ice, but a set of newly developed stage equipment, which integrates many high technologies. The interior is spliced into a cube shape by steel structure, and the surface is covered with LED screen, showing all kinds of cool special effects. The audience looks like a big ice cube. The ice is very big, 22 meters long, 7 meters wide and 10 meters high.

The specific person in charge of the ice cube project is Shen Jigang, chief engineer of Long March Tian Min Company. He led the team to learn from the design concept of rocket launcher and independently developed a brand-new motor drive system. At the bottom of the ice cube, there are 16 sets of mechanical structures consisting of chains, steel ropes and guide rails, just like 16 Hercules, which cooperate with each other to lift ice cube smoothly from the stage plane.

Realization of ice breaking effect of ice cubes

The ice ring itself is also an LED screen, hidden in the middle of the ice. When it appeared, the laser located on the fourth floor of the stands shone on the ice and carved it. With the laser "carving", the five ice rings at the bottom slowly rise, and the LED screen around the ice cubes slowly descends. At the same time, the stereoscopic visual effect of splashing ice slag is played, forming a visual effect that the five ice rings are "carved" bit by bit.
