Gan Zuchang, a major general of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, is a native of Lianhua County, Jiangxi Province, and is known as the "peasant general". 1926 joined the village peasant association, 1927 entered China, and joined the Chinese Red Army of Workers and Peasants the following year.
During his revolutionary career, he served as deputy section chief of the Red Army Arsenal in the Hunan-Jiangxi Military Region, chief of the quartermaster section of the supply department of the 359th Brigade of the Eighth Route Army, deputy director of the supply department of the 359th Brigade, and minister of the supply department of the 359th Brigade of the Jinsui Military Region.

After Gan Zuchang applied to return to his hometown on 1957, the state gave him appropriate treatment according to the regulations. In the twenty-nine years in rural areas, Comrade Gan Zuchang often went deep into reality, made investigations and studies, kept close contact with the masses, shared joys and sorrows with them, and persisted in taking part in labor, building three reservoirs, a 25-kilometer-long channel, four hydropower stations, three highways and 12 bridges.
After Gan Zuchang returned to his hometown, he paid Gan Zuchang a salary. According to statistics, during the period from 1957 to 1984, Gan Zuchang's wage income and original deposit totaled 102452 yuan, of which 79032 yuan was turned over to the state construction fund, accounting for more than 70% of the total income. It has made great contributions to promoting the economic development of hometown.
