On the way to March, I received an order from the Central Military Commission that the Luding Bridge must be captured on the 29th, and asked the Red Fourth Regiment to "complete this glorious and great task with the fastest marching speed and resolute maneuver." At this time, the station is 440 Li away from Luding Bridge. How urgent! At 5 o'clock in the morning on the 28th, everyone ate a porridge and went on their way. Liu Zihua is a red boy who doesn't want to lag behind. Together with his comrades-in-arms, he faced the thunder and little rain, endured hunger and torture, and eagerly climbed over the mountains. With a strong revolutionary will, after a whole day and a night of urgent marching, they finally arrived at the west bank of Luding Bridge at 6 am on the 29th, and the troops quickly occupied the coastal positions.
Luding Bridge flies ten feet above Dadu River. There are no piers, only 13 iron cables, which are 80 feet long and 8 feet wide from east coast to west coast. A hoop is fastened to the chain. The bridge was originally covered with planks. Now the enemy has destroyed all the boards, leaving only 13 bare chains. Looking down, it is dizzying.
The regimental headquarters held a meeting to study and decided to designate Liu Zihua's second company as a commando. After the meeting, Erlian quickly convened a pre-war mobilization meeting and decided to form a 22-member commando as the first echelon. Hearing this, Liu Zihua was the first to stand up and demand to be the vanguard of the commandos. The leaders of the battalion company saw that he was eager to fight, smart and suitable for assault missions, and approved him as the pioneer of the assault team.
After some careful preparation, the commandos armed with submachine guns, with sabres flashing on their backs and more than a dozen grenades wrapped around their waists, braved the dense bullets on the other side under the guidance of captain Liao Dazhu, held the railing by the bridge and stepped on the shaking chain to impact the other side. The enemy fired fiercely at the chain with light and heavy machine guns in an attempt to stop the Red Army soldiers from charging. However, under the tight blockade of the Red Army firepower on the west coast, the enemy's firepower was suppressed. Twenty-two warriors, including Liu Zihua, became more and more brave in the Vietnam War, regardless of the arrival of death. The enemy was shocked by the fearless spirit of the soldiers and turned around and fled. When the warriors climbed the last section of the iron rope and approached the enemy's bridge, suddenly, a raging fire broke out at the city gate. It turned out that the enemy lit the boards piled on the bridge with kerosene in an attempt to stop the Red Army from advancing. Captain Liao Dazhu shouted: "Forward!" Jump up and lead the team to rush forward regardless. At this time, the second and third echelons also arrived quickly, and the red flag was planted on the East Bank Bridge!
In order to reward the heroic acts of 22 warriors, the Central Military Commission gave them clothes, pens and other prizes. After the victory of the Long March, another big medal was issued. After the national liberation, Liu Zihua was arranged to rest in the North China Military Region Hospital. When he was in better health, he asked for a job assignment. At his repeated request, the leader had to allow him to go to Tianjin as the deputy chief of staff of the military division. 195 1 February, he was ill again. He knew that his health was declining. He always visits his comrades-in-arms and colleagues and says, "I can't work for the party anymore. I hope comrades will work hard! " In the early morning of April 7th 1 1, the Red Army soldier who had been fighting on the battlefield for 20 years bid farewell to his comrades-in-arms and relatives!
Liu Zihua has been through many battles, made meritorious service five times, and suffered serious injuries nine times, thus becoming a disabled soldier of Grade II. 1951April died in Beijing Army General Hospital.
