1July, 960, Yuan Lao accidentally discovered a rice plant with special characteristics in the agricultural school experiment. He tried planting this kind of rice and found that the offspring had different characteristics. Because rice is self-pollinated, there will be no character separation, so he inferred that it should be a natural hybrid rice. Then he artificially removed the male flowers of hermaphrodite rice and gave them pollen from another variety in an attempt to produce hybrid varieties. He knows that the possibility of natural hybridization of rice is only one in a thousand. However, once the hybridization is successful, the yield may double.
Six years later, Yuan Longping published his paper "Masculinity of Rice", which was published in the fourth issue of Science Bulletin, volume 17, edited by China. In May of the same year, Zhao Quartz, director of the Ninth Bureau of Science and Technology Commission, saw it and sent a letter to Hunan Science and Technology Commission and Anjiang Agricultural School in the name of the Ninth Bureau of Science and Technology Commission to support Yuan Longping's rice male research activities.
