Xinxiang City is located in the north of Henan Province, bordering the Yellow River in the south, and facing Zhengzhou, the provincial capital, and Kaifeng, the ancient capital, across the river. North of Taihang, adjacent to Hebi and Anyang; Jiaozuo, a tourist city in the west, borders the southeast of Shanxi; Puyang, an oil city in the east, and Shandong in the west, is the economic and transportation center in northern Henan and one of the cities in the Central Plains urban agglomeration. In the second year of the Republic of China (19 13), the abandoned government set up a road, which belonged to Yubei Road in Henan Province and governed Jixian County (now Weihui in Xinxiang). In 3 years, Yubei Road was renamed Hebei Road. They all govern Xinxiang.

In the Republic of China 16 (1927), a two-level system of provinces and counties was implemented, and Xinxiang was directly under Henan Province.

1February, 986, Xinxiang area was abolished, and Xinxiang city governed eight counties: Xinxiang County, Jixian County, Huojia County, Huixian County, Yuanyang County, Yanjin County, fengqiu county County and Changyuan County. So far, Xinxiang has formed a complete city and county system.

By the end of 1999, Xinxiang City had jurisdiction over Weihui City, huixian city, Xinxiang County, Huojia County, Yuanyang County, Yanjin County, fengqiu county County and Changyuan County, with Weibin District, Hongqi District, muye district District and Fengquan District in the urban areas, as well as high-tech industrial development zones and Xigong District.

In 2006, Xinxiang City administered Weihui City, huixian city, Xinxiang County, Huojia County, Yuanyang County, Yanjin County, fengqiu county County and Changyuan County. The urban areas include Weibin District, Hongqi District, muye district and Fengquan District, Xinxiang High-tech Industrial Development Zone, Xigong District, Xinxiang Industrial Park and Pingyuan New District (deputy department level).
