Changde is located in the western part of Hunan, at the junction of Xiangxi Mountain and Dongting Lake Plain, with high terrain in the northwest and southwest, especially in Shimen area in the northwest. This area belongs to Wuling Mountain Range, which is the highest place in the whole city and even the whole province. There are many peaks over1500m above sea level, including Hu Ping, which is called "the roof of Hunan".

Hupingshan is located in Hupingshan Town, northwest of Shimen County, at the junction of Hunan and Hubei. Wufeng County in Hubei Province is in the north, about 20km away from Hupingshan Town in the south, 8 1km away from Shimen County in the southeast, and 139km away from Changde City.

Huping Mountain is named after its pot-shaped shape and the height around the top of the mountain, usually above 2000 meters above sea level. The main peak is 2098.7 meters above sea level, second only to Shennong Peak in Chaling County (2 1 15.2 meters). It is the first peak in Changde and the second peak in Hunan. Huping Mountain belongs to Taiqing Mountain, the northern branch of Wuling Mountain. It is located at the northeast end of Wuling Mountain, more than 400 meters lower than the main peak of Wuling Mountain (Phoenix Mountain in Guizhou). It is the highest peak in the Hunan section of Wuling Mountain, and it is also a rare peak over 2000 meters above sea level.

Huping Mountain covers an area of 15 square kilometers, and there is a nature reserve. There are undulating peaks in the territory, and there are more than 160 peaks above 1000 meters above sea level, among which the main peaks Huping Mountain and Shuangjianzi Mountain are above 2000 meters above sea level. The main vein of Huping Mountain extends from east to west, and its branches are almost perpendicular to it.

Affected by the Pacific warm current, Hu Ping belongs to a typical subtropical mountainous monsoon climate zone, with an annual average temperature of 9.2, an extreme maximum temperature of 38.2, an extreme minimum temperature of-15, an annual average sunshine of 1509.9 hours, an annual precipitation of1898.5mm, an annual average snowy day of 42.2 days and an altitude of 65438.

Generally speaking, the climate in Hu Ping is characterized by low temperature, late spring and early winter, no heat in midsummer, severe cold in midwinter, abundant rainfall and high humidity. There are 83/kloc-0 species of woody plants everywhere in the nature reserve, including 28 species under state protection, 9 species of medicinal plants/kloc-0, 0/kloc-0, 29 species of Davidia involucrata and Celastrus mandshurica under state first-class protection, and 29 species of Prunus humilis, Magnolia officinalis and Liriodendron under state second-class protection.

Most of these rare plants belong to the ancient plants of tertiary ice age and the tree species left before tertiary, and are called "living fossils". Among them, Sorbus hunanensis, Carpinus Shimen and Prunus macrocarpa are new species that have not been discovered before, and are known as "whispers". Botanists at home and abroad have confirmed that Davidia involucrata in the mountain stream of Hu Ping is the largest Davidia involucrata community in the world.

In addition, there are more than 350 kinds of wild animals in the reserve, which biologists call "a green treasure house with all kinds of gold". Among the rare animals are clouded leopard, leopard, South China tiger and golden cat. , macaques, the world's largest amphibians, giant salamander, hundred-crowned pheasant and red-bellied pheasant.

According to legend, Li Beiliu, a poet in the Tang Dynasty, let go of this place and wrote a beautiful sentence of "a bottle of waterfalls, a peach blossom falls into the hole". Over the years, Hu Ping has attracted more and more attention at home and abroad, and was jointly selected as one of the 200 key ecological zones in the world by the World Wide Fund for Nature, the International Union for Conservation of Nature and the World Bank. Approved by the State Council as a national nature reserve; It has been identified as a key eco-tourism area in Hunan Province.

Due to the complex and dangerous terrain in Hu Ping, the population density here is very low, and you can feel the natural beauty of the original ecology. Wandering between peaks and streams, lush vegetation can make you forget your troubles for a while and enjoy quiet time; Wandering at the top of the mountain, from a distance, the vastness and mystery of nature are fully exposed, making people realize that life has more possibilities.

The traffic in Hu Ping is relatively closed. Although it is about 20 kilometers away from Hu Ping Mountain City, most of it is Panshan Highway, which is actually more than 40 kilometers.
