What are Zhang Zhidong's experiences?
Zhang Zhidong (1837~ 1909) was born in Nanpi, Zhili (now Nanpi, Hebei) and was one of the representatives of the Westernization School. 1884 during the sino-French war, the governor of Shanxi was promoted to the governor of Guangdong and Guangxi, and Feng Zicai, a retired veteran, was appointed to defeat the French army at the border of Guangxi. 1889 was transferred to the governor of Huguang and became the leader of the Westernization School with the support of Britain and Germany. It has successively established Hanyang Iron Works, Hubei Guns Factory, Maanshan Coal Mine, Hubei Weaving Layout, Hubei Reeling Bureau and other light and heavy industrial enterprises, and organized the Luhan Railway. 1898 published "Persuade Learning", proposing that "old learning should be the body and new learning should be used" to safeguard feudal ethics and oppose the Reform Movement of 1898. 1900, the boxer uprising, he advocated repression. Zhang Zhidong attached importance to education, and first founded Guangdong Land and Water Normal School and Guangya Academy. Later, he emphasized the importance of normal education, and his thoughts had a great influence on education in the late Qing Dynasty.
