A synopsis of a story that can't be played with children.
Jack Worthing, the protagonist of this play, is Cecily Kadu's guardian. In Cecily's eyes, Jack is an extremely serious and rigorous person. However, for many years, Jack lied to Cecily that he had a profligate brother named Ernest in London. In order to help this imaginary brother, Jack often leaves Hertfordshire where Cecily lives and goes to London. When Jack was in London, he called himself Ernest. He met algernon Monkriev's cousin Gwendolen Fairfax and began to associate with her.

As for the other protagonist, algie lied that he had a friend named Bunbury, who was often ill in the suburbs. Whenever algie wants to escape some social responsibilities, or just want to go out to have a rest at the weekend, he deceives people by saying that he will visit this friend who is also a fiction. He called this fictional identity or the practice of creating a dual identity "burying one's head."

At the beginning of the story, Jack ran to Algie's house to propose to Gwendolen, but he was in great trouble. First, Gwendolen seems to like Jack simply because she believes his name is Ernest, because Ernest is the most beautiful name in her mind. The second trouble is that Gwendolen's mother is a terrible Ms. Bracknell. She is obviously dissatisfied and surprised with Jack's life experience. Jack was put in a handbag abandoned at the railway station when he was a child, until his guardian Tom Kadu (also Cecily's grandfather) found and adopted him. She thinks it is unacceptable for her daughter to "marry into the cloakroom and form an alliance with the parcel".

On the other hand, algernon found Ernest (algernon didn't know Ernest's real name at that time) left a silver cigarette case in his room, engraved with a paragraph: "To my dearest little Cecily, to my dear uncle Jack." Little Cecily gave it to my dear Uncle Jack with tender love. Algie not only began to doubt, but also further forced Ernest to admit that his real name was Jack, and told the reason why he often traveled between London and the suburbs. algie found that this was very similar to his "burying corpse" behavior.

Jack tells algie that Cecily seems interested in this fictional brother Ernest, so he decides to give up "burying the body" and intends to tell Cecily that his brother Ernest in London has died in Paris. Jack's description of Cecily in the conversation made algie curious about this 18-year-old girl. Just as Jack changed into mourning and planned to go to Hertfordshire to tell Cecily the "bad news", algie had arrived at Cecily's apartment in the suburbs one step ahead of schedule, pretending to be Jack's profligate brother Ernest. Not only did they talk quickly, but when Jack arrived here, Cecily told her guardian that she and algie had plans to get married. Jack is angry, but he must pretend as if nothing had happened.

Gwendolen came to the suburbs to meet Jack, but Cecily was the only one. The two of them started talking, and they saw through the true identities and secrets of Algie and Jake. Later, these two men also appeared and asked them why they lied. After both of them gave satisfactory answers, they were going to find a priest to give Ernest a name, so Cecily and Gwendolen forgave them.

Just then, Ms. Blacknell, who followed her daughter from a distance, came to Hertfordshire. Gwendolen once again mentioned her marriage with Jack to her mother, but she still disagreed. On the other hand, algie also said that he and Cecily were engaged. Ms. Bracknell asked Cecily and Jack a lot of questions about Cecily's background. Jack answered impatiently one by one, and Ms. Bracknell didn't become interested until it was mentioned that Cecily had inherited a large inheritance. Jack, as Cecily's guardian, does not agree to her marriage with algie unless Ms. Blacknell agrees to marry her daughter to him. Even so, Ms. Bracknell refused to make an exchange. Just before she left Cecily's apartment, she heard Dr. Chabble talking about Cecily's tutor, Miss Prism, and Ms. Bracknell asked to be summoned without thinking.

When Miss Prism first met Ms Bracknell, she was shocked. Because 28 years ago, she worked for Ms. Bracknell's sister, during which she accidentally lost a baby and then disappeared. After further questioning, Ms. Bracknell agreed with Jack's statement and confirmed that the child was Jack himself. The child's mother is Ms. Bracknell's sister, and his father is also algie's father. In other words, it turns out that Jack is really algie's brother. Ms. Bracknell said that as the eldest son, Jack's holy name would naturally follow his father's name. After searching, it was confirmed that his father happened to take another Ernest's holy name. Finally, everyone hugs their partner. Before the end of the play, Jack said that he understood the importance of being serious for the first time. Love now realizes the importance of sincerity for the first time in my life.
