I have seen four ways to write grades: general GPA, core GPA, single subject grade and no grade. The first and fourth types are recommended. The trick of the middle two is to tell others that what I haven't written down is not very good. However, if your core professional courses are really good, but your comprehensive grades are ruined by a bunch of inexplicable political courses and excellent elective courses, it is barely acceptable for the company you want to apply for to be obsessed with your grades.
