The middle school was founded by the famous revolutionary educator Zhu Yu 1905. "Nan Zhou" inherited the meaning of Nan Zhou in The Book of Songs and was originally named Nan Zhou Girls' School. In 2004, it became the first batch of provincial demonstration ordinary high schools in Hunan Province. Because it is the first girls' school in Huxiang, it is known as "the first girls' school in China".
