1959 to 1963, teaching in the chemistry department of Inner Mongolia Normal University. 1963 was transferred to teach at Shandong Ocean University, 1978 was directly promoted from assistant professor to professor, 1983 was a doctoral supervisor from 1986. He used to be the director of the Department of Marine Chemistry of Qingdao Ocean University, the vice chairman of China Marine Chemistry Society, and a part-time researcher of Nanhai Institute of China Academy of Sciences. Professor Zhang has been engaged in teaching and scientific research since he graduated from Peking University on 1958. He used to be a teaching assistant of Inner Mongolia Normal University and Shandong Ocean University (now China Ocean University), and 1978 was promoted to associate professor of Shandong Ocean University. 1983 the state education commission approved the promotion of professors. 1986 Professor Zhang is the first doctoral supervisor of the doctoral program in marine chemistry approved by the the State Council Academic Degrees Committee. He used to be a visiting professor at Oregon State University and Sun Yat-sen University, and a part-time researcher at China Nanhai Institute of Oceanography and the Third Institute of Oceanography of the State Oceanic Administration. Professor Zhang used to be the director of the Department of Marine Chemistry of Shandong Ocean University, the director of the Institute of Marine Chemistry, and the honorary president of the Institute of Chemical Engineering. Professor Zhang is the executive director of China Ocean and Lake Society, the vice chairman of China Ocean Chemistry Society and the vice chairman of Shandong Chemical and Chemical Society. He used to be a member of the National Natural Science Foundation, the first and second disciplines of marine science, the teaching steering committee of the State Education Commission (2 sessions), the four disciplines of the Science and Technology Commission of the State Education Commission, the editorial board of oceanologia et limnologia sinica Studies and Journal of China Ocean University, the deputy director of the editorial board, and the editorial board of China Science in China (series B).
