"Smelly boy" "The teacher gave you his heart, but why don't some people understand?" "I remember you like this coat best", and it also provokes the relationship between students and girlfriends, which is too lenient ... ([email? Protected])
There is a saying among China international students, especially doctoral students: Three kinds of tutors can't follow, namely, China (especially male tutors from Chinese mainland), AP (associate professors, equivalent to China's associate professors) and female tutors (female tutors).
Of course, not all professors in China are bad. There must be some professors who are very popular with students!
Remember Yuan Jinmei, a tenured professor at Clayton University? She is a member of the Committee of Asian Philosophy and Asian Philosophers of the American Philosophical Association. In recent years, she has published a large number of essays, poems, novels and philosophical papers at home and abroad, and her works have won many awards such as "Newcomer Joint Literature Award".
Clayton University expelled a graduate student from China on 20/0/7, and Professor Yuan Jinmei wrote a letter to the expelled student, deeply discussing the educational differences and academic integrity between China and the United States, which spread all over the world! It also triggered everyone's deep thinking!
How can such a professor who is rigorous in teaching, academically successful and strict and honest with his students not be loved by his students?
However, when studying abroad, China students usually try to avoid China as much as possible. Why?
Many professors in China will set up companies while working in colleges and universities, use their own laboratories for research and development, and then use the companies to sell products. At the same time, they can apply to the government for funds to subsidize their wallets in the name of startups and technology companies.
Employees are generally students who work for free.
In the first two or three years, doctors have to take professional courses. Some China tutors will tell students that you should choose the simplest course, don't go if you can, and make time for experiments.
China students' professional foundation is very weak. Without the guidance of teachers, they are not allowed to go well in class and their scientific research is not in-depth at all.
But when I graduate, I need the cooperation of my tutor and my students, but my tutor never gives me guidance and I can't see anyone in the office all day. How can students meet the graduation requirements?
Ironically, many students in China really hate their teacher China from the inside out, and the teachers are well aware of this, but they are determined to create a harmonious atmosphere.
Why are some China professors like this? They are not born perfect.
First of all, my own experience makes it so.
Teacher China, who can go abroad to study for a doctorate and stay in an American university, is very strong.
In foreign countries, there are fewer Chinese, more discrimination and less scientific research resources. After going abroad, you must work hard to achieve today's achievements. Your own suffering will be projected on your own students, which will inevitably make people feel harsh.
Secondly, the form of scientific research is grim.
The demand for teaching posts in colleges and universities is already in short supply. It usually takes hundreds of resumes to get 4-5 interviews, and the interview process is more rigorous.
After the video interview, if the other party feels good, an on-site interview will be arranged. Some good universities will arrange on-site interviews for two whole days, from 8 am to 8 pm.
After the interview, we have to wait for the interview Committee to evaluate the recommendation vote and finally decide whether to admit you.
After being admitted, you usually start as an assistant professor (similar to a domestic lecturer). Usually there are four or five lecturers in a department competing for an associate professor (AP mentioned at the beginning of the article), and it usually takes 2-7 years for a lecturer to become an associate professor.
In most schools, when you become an associate professor, you will become a tenured professor. As long as you don't make big mistakes such as academic fraud and criminal cases, you can guarantee retirement.
If you fail to be promoted to associate professor, the result will be cruel and you will be dismissed by the university. At this time, it is difficult to apply for teaching positions in other universities, and the age of changing careers has lost its advantage.
Teacher China is even worse. It is no problem for him to get a green card during his work. Even if he is dismissed, he can at least find a job if his status permits. If he can't get a green card and lose his job, he can only leave for home at once. From this point of view, the local whites and blacks have an advantage over Professor China.
In view of such competition and pressure, China people, as outsiders, must make more efforts than their own people to achieve the same achievements, so it is "natural" that some professors from China are so wonderful.
Finally, China people's own disadvantages.
As a professor, a big job is to pull projects and get funds, which is inseparable from cooperation, contacts and culture. Although China people are very clever, the education we received from childhood is to cultivate a sense of competition, so we are weak in cooperation and emotional intelligence.
Moreover, if you are not born and raised in the United States, no matter how long you stay in the United States, it is difficult to fully integrate and understand your contacts and culture, which makes it difficult for Professor China to pull projects and engage in funds. They will unconsciously transfer these pressures to students.
We were born from the same root, so why should we speculate with each other!
It is precisely because some tutors in China put pain on their students in this way that the reputation of these tutors in China is not very good!
To study abroad, you must first ensure your academic integrity. When choosing a tutor, whether it's a foreign teacher or a Chinese teacher, please consult some senior teachers and sisters before making a decision. Don't kill them with a stick!
