Dahongpao is a sacred existence in China art world. Known as "the history of painting", it is the ultimate dream of countless artists. Wang Defeng is not on the list of "Dahongpao".

Dahongpao began in the early 1990s, and was edited and published by People's Fine Arts Publishing House, as another name for two series of paintings, Modern Famous Paintings in China and Contemporary Famous Paintings in China. A painter who can be included in Dahongpao and publish an exclusive collection of paintings is called a "red robe painter".
